    Issues joining dutys

Hey folks, it's been quite a while since I last played, but now I have a rl friend who is playing with me and we have been going around doing quests, fates and what have you.

Just recently we've started up the dungeon quests and to my frustration, I could not register us for the duty despite us both having the quest to enter said dungeon. The only thing I could think of was that my friend was higher level due to him grinding fates while I was offline.

If I passed the party off to him, we were able to register just fine. Why wouldn't I be able to register in the Duty Finder even though we both were capable of running the dungeon?

You don't just have to have the quest, you have to go down and talk to the NPC at the dungeon entrance to unlock it after you get the quest. Did you do that?

Yes, both of us were capable of queuing for the dungeon, yet when I tried to register (as the party leader) it told me one of my party members was ineligible. When I passed the party lead to him he was able to get us signed up. Would the fact that he was above the dungeon level (eg, he had to level sync) cause this issue?

Hmmm. While it seems it shouldn't make a difference, I don't know for a fact whether it does. Very odd if it does--I'd go so far as to call it a bug. I recently ran Garuda Story Mode as a party with someone who had to level cap with me as party leader--but I was being level capped too, and that may have made a difference.

Did either of you have your Chocobo companion out? You also can't queue if you have one summoned. Your friend may have had one out then dismissed it once he realized the problem, but you would know if that was the case or not better than I.

The error you got might have been that your friend was on a different/lower level class to queue and that once you passed him the lead he swapped to his class and that's why the queue went through. The warning you get that one person can't queue also gives that person specific information why not. Another option is iirc certain cutscenes prevent you from queueing as well and he might have been in one.

There's a limited number of reasons why you wouldn't be able to enter a duty finder:

    1. Any members of the party are a class ineligible for the content (Chocobo companions, or anyone currently in a crafting/gathering class)
    2. Any members of the party are currently offline
    3. A member of the party has not unlocked the duty (You must ensure the duty has been added to each member's duty finder list)
    4. A member of the party is too low of level in the class currently selected (Higher levels are absolutely fine; they'll be synced down, but participate just fine. However, being below the level requirement [and, at level 50, the item level requirement] is not an option)
    5. You are queueing as a partial party with an invalid combination.

#5 is the likely culprit. 4-man duties (Which is everything prior to level 40 and still quite a bit after) have a very strict party composition - one tank, one healer, and two DPS. You can get around this if you are queueing as a full 4-man party, in which case you can bring whatever combination you want. However, if there's only 2/3 people queueing, you have to adhere to this combination for the duty finder to accept you (as it will fill in the rest of the composition). If both you and your friend are Conjurers (and therefore Healers), you'll be unable to queue together because of this, unless you find other players to queue with.

I can safely say options 1 & 2 are out, as neither of us had crafting classes or chocobos, and I confirmed that options 4 & 5 are also definitely out (we were a healer/tank combo and both of us out-leveled the instance). Since my friend isn't at all experienced with this game, I'm gonna have to wager a guess that he hadn't finished talking to the dude until I passed him the position so he could start it. I'll do a test probably tomorrow evening to see if we can queue for Sastasha or Tam-Tara again. If i STILL can't register the duty then it'll have to be a bug, otherwise i'll have to smack him up-side the head a few times XD.

Thank you everyone for your help, I really appreciate it!
