Well 1 job to 1 class (for now). That doesn't mean that jobs can't get their own weapon type for use while the job is equipped, just saying. We don't know enough details yet. I mean how would you weapon lock the jobs that come from multiple classes (as was stated in the famitsu interview not too long ago)? The potential is there, the information given hasn't explicitly stated that each job is locked to the weapon of the class it comes from.
The stuff your talking about though, is insanely far off, i dont think they have even figured out what to do with the, one day we may add jobs that need two requirements.
    when was 1.18? july?
thats about 2 months per major patch, if they keep up the same pace, (lets be honest 1.17-1.18 took april to july, sooo 3 months) 1.21 is a little over 4 months
from their own plans, they seem to say that jobs will take awhile to properly implement, and would need some balancing, that will come before the even start on new jobs

what im getting at, is talking about possible cross class jobs and that type of stuff is at least 9 months away, Ill prolly be glad to hear about it, but will most of these people still be playing in 9 months if the game doesnt get a lot more interesting soon?

*Open menu > click 'Job' option > Click 'Thief' > Click 'Apply Job' > Character becomes job with weapon variation availability (Sword/Dagger/Axe with favor of: Gla, Pld, Thf) > Win *
Basically your suggestion would make more sense than what Yoshi proposed.

In this way, a player could pick what job he/she wanted. And then you could combine your abilities to some kind of job-template that remembered your action bars. And then you could switch between weapons which you've ranked up using the armory system.

I don't see what's wrong with this besides the possibility of balance issues.

this would be a more interesting system, but just throwing it out that it is not what they said they are going to create.

at best from what they say, it will be gladiator click pld then 9 months later gld click berserker, both will have the same overall weapon choices.

The point I'm getting as though is, if they're going to eventually put in those cross-class jobs, then they'd have to have a system in place for jobs at a base level to be able to use more than one weapon or their own weapon. As I said, it's never been explicitly stated that jobs will be locked to the weapon of the class they're currently attached to.

Currently the way weapons are attached to a class is by the "required" designation. It isn't impossible then to make multiple weapon types with the same job "required" designation. Considering jobs aren't classes, it isn't impossible for them to justify it either.

All I'm saying is that nothing has been explicitly stated. They haven't said "Paladin will only be able to use sword/shield" or "Monk will only be able to use Knuckle weapons". Is it likely? Sure with the current information but they could be (as they often are) holding off on giving us that information.

they actually had a huge thread about this before, with cairdeas hoping that they wouldnt be locked, and eventually they flat out said, 1 job 1 weapon only, and he got pretty annoyed.

They may in fact change their minds, but they have confirmed 1 job to 1 weapon for the forseable future. It is easily possible they could change their minds, and i hope they do, but going off what they say now, Im hoping that they will realize now that people dont really want that type of job structure, especially with only 7 classes.

The confusing will be when people start picking out that *this sword* looks identical to *this sword* but *this sword* is for a Gladiator but *this sword* is for a Paladin, or fighting a boss, a sword drops, the Paladin goes "hooray!" then the White Mage goes "Hold on! That's for Gladiator", Paladin goes "Q.Q".

If players switch between jobs the same way they currently switch between classes, they better start giving us bigger inventories to carry all the weapons and equipment

Thieves usually dual-wield daggers, does that mean whilst we're equipping our weapons we'll be turned into a gladiator for a moment whilst we try to equip the second dagger? :3

That's actually a good point, I kind of hope they remove dagger from Glad if they're going to introduce other dagger-using jobs. Fun fact: All one-handed weapons actually have the off-hand designation as well though you simply can't equip them that way yet.

That or Thief would be Glad + Pug. Which as was stated previously isn't in the foreseeable future.

Daggers always seemed kinda silly on Gladiators anyways. How is a knife supposed to parry the jaws of a 20 foot drake?

And yeah, Pugilist weaponry is actually dual-wielding but only takes the one hand slot in the gear window, so Thief weaponry will probably operate the same way.

But then that makes gearing for tanks more expensive 'cos they'd need to buy a sword AND shield, where as DD's only need to buy one weapon... oh wait, they already do *cough*.

At the moment though we've only had about jobs being given to battle classes, has there been any information on jobs for DoL or DoH? Will they even get jobs? If so, how would that work? Botanists get a chainsaw for more effective logging, miners get a pneumatic drill to get more copper? :3

Or wouldnt it be easier just to not lock it 1 class - 1 job?

Honestly, dont you see the problem is so intrinsic that it's easier/less confusing/just generally better to add jobs as a new LAYER onto the pre-existing armory system rather than trying to somehow shove it into the armory system where it doesnt belong?
