I feel like this thread is more relevant now that it's been brought to our attention that classes and jobs have been mangled beyond recognition.

I support saving the Armoury system.

The armoury system to me is bland. All the crying because in GROUPs you may have to change to your 1/1 role. Which for the majority ffxiv's battle system is somewhat horrid. Run around killing mobs that live 3 seconds for hours @ a time for max SP. No challenge what so ever, least in XI when you got two mobs or a Goblin popped a bomb in your group you really went "oh shit..". Nows it more so, "who cares", move onto the next mob I will hit a total of 3 times before it dies. General grouping in ffxiv is really sad, and I hope that actually put in challenging content and group grinding activities where I dont have to constantly hold "w" or forward on my joystick trying to get to a mob that the three archers behind me will kill before my useless GLA gets to it.
I'm almost hoping that they increase SP cap to mobs 20+ levels above and make the new jobs able to handle them steadily and cautiously. Either that or make "Elite" area's where party's can grind.
I don't see the problem. We've seen this kind of thing before. Nobody complained when Bahamut turned:
Warrior into Knight
Thief into Ninja
Black Mage into Black Wizard
Red Mage into Red Wizard
White Mage into White Wizard
or Monk into Master!
You didn't think "Aw hell, I spent all that time leveling Warrior and now I'm a Knight?!" You said "SWEEEEET!"
What's the real difference between Black Mage and Black Wizard? About the same difference there will be between Conjurer and Black Mage or Conjurer and White Mage. It's a matter of specialization.
You want to play your hybrid class? Go for it. You want to specialize in one area (Like healing or nukes)? Cool, that makes it easier.
I think it's great. Conjurers can heal and nuke. Now SE wants to implement two jobs that specialize in each of those? Hell yea.
Look at the potential good and less of the potential bad.
EDIT: For further perspective:
Conjurer: Deals with healing and quick damaging spells. (Fire, Fire II, Flare, Cure, Cure II)
Black Mage: Deals in heavily damaging spells. Cast times are longer, MP costs higher. (Blaze, Blaze II, Inferno)
White Mage: Provides extreme healing support and removal of multiple status effects. (Cura, Curaga, Curaja, Esuna, Null-Spells)
Conjurer is still good for dealing rapid amounts of small damage and maintaining party HP.
Black mage is good for dealing heavier amounts of damage on targets.
White mage is good for healing and erasing heavy damage and status effects.
Why still use a conjurer? Because they are quicker and can adapt.
(Note that this is just my speculation on how it could work.)

Funny you should mention FF1 Alerith.
I was debating on whether I should bother making a thread to point out to SE that what they have made isn't a job system, it's the FF1 advanced class promotion system.
Seriously, WTH is going on at SE that people have to tell them this stuff?
This makes everything SO MUCH WORSE because you have to get the advanced job, and no other good job is coming for your basic job. Now every Archer has to be a Bard. Most archers aren't going to want to be bards. A lot of bards don't want to be archers either.
Most people wanted something more like FF Tactics. The appeal was obvious in that it should have been an awesome fit with the armory system's flexibility.
Weapons+Tools vs Jobs
Some would be simple in that say Lancer 30 opens up Dragoon. But others would be more complex...like say Alchemist 20 + Botanist 20 = Chemist.
That was the sort of job system that people wanted. That IS a job system. And the basic idea of it fits so well with the armory system in such an obvious way and was so much talked about.
And yet somehow the job system we're getting is frankly complete crap if it's only ever going to be 1 job per class because that just is not a job system. That is a promotion system being called a job system by incompetent people.
1.19 has made this game a complete mess. I'd say 1 step forward and 2 steps back but it's more like 1 step forward and a 10 step drunken jig of madness into crazy-WTF-town.
