    Logos,

    Your suggestion would be fine as a means to keep the tournament running in the event someone has to leave. However...

    If it is equally both, well then it should be equally competitive and equally inclusive. The way the rules are written now definitely lean more toward inclusive than competitive, for the reasons I have previously illustrated.
    I feel your suggestion isn't very inclusive. What this means is, the 5th player is just sitting on the sidelines, waiting on the offchance someone has to leave so they can play. Or they choose to swap him in, but then the replaced player can't play anymore. Remember, this is a video game; a MMO, we should have an option to allow as many people as possible to play with their friends, while keeping the tournament competitive. I feel 6 man teams strikes this balance.

    I do understand your concern, but I noticed Blubbers updated the OP with new rules regarding player swapping. It would definitely keep things competetive by allowing the losing team to try a new composition, and this would keep the winning team on their toes, forcing them to adapt. All while still being inclusive.

    That is a good change Blubbers made, a pretty standard rule for tournaments. I still think it should only be freely swapping jobs and not jobs & players, though. When I see the word "tournament", I think more competitive than inclusive. If this were a more casual event without a bracket and prizes that cost money, or even one with a bracket that has randomized teams, then it would make much more sense to prioritize inclusion equally or more than competition (Holic came up with that idea in the Skype chat last night).

    "Wolves Den PvP Tournament - The Great Aether Cup" sounds competitive to me, so rules geared toward competition over inclusion are warranted here, in my opinion. In fact, all the rules are pretty cut throat and competitive except for the ones that allow more than 4 players on a team and swapping players in between matches. From what people have said so far and in the chat I had with the creators of the tournament last night, it seems the majority of players interested in registering are in favor of changing it to 4 player teams with swapping only jobs, and the single reason for keeping it at 6 player teams is to be more inclusive.

    Out of curiosity, are you planning to sign up for the tournament? I haven't seen you at the solo queue events (there is a thread about it in the PvP forums here). Hope to play with you soon!

    And in the event where one of the 4 people on a team has a connection or irl issue, then your version of the rules would mean the entire team is disqualified instead of allowing a teammate to cover the gap, while at the same time banning the benched players from participating at all

    Alternates are permitted an overwhelming majority of tournament formats, the easily most notable for gaming would be EMS, ESL One, IEM, LCS, SWC and the invitational, all of which have a following over multiple millions of players

    @Logos

    I just don't get how the 6 players vs. 4 players thing is EITHER "competitive" or "inclusive". It seems very standard and reasonable to allow teams to have subs, and that applies to any competitive environment - including online E-sports.

    As I've read this thread I've been scratching my head the entire time at why you keep vehemently defending your idea when everyone has given you plenty of reasons and arguments as to why a strict 4 man team is simply not a good idea - even for a competitive tournament. I seriously don't believe that a 4 man team is in any way disadvantaged against a 6 man team (if you really think so then maybe find two other people for your team to "level of the playing field" to use your own words?)- and your conspiracy theory attitude about the tournament creators tailoring the rules to their favor is nothing more than unfounded paranoia.

    Just to be clear - I'm a completely objective observer in all this and have no relationship with anyone in this thread and I certainly won't be participating in the event - just to assuage and concerns that my argument is coming with any bias.

    PS. This is totally the place to discuss this. You've been absolutely correct to post everything you wanted to say about it in this thread - the first 4 pages were /popcorn worthy.

    Don't know if you saw my other suggestion: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2973153

    I know subs are sometimes used in e-sports. My suggestions where specific to this tournament.

    @scotchtape

    If my team all wants to register, I'll be streaming too
