You can go back to the original post and edit it to whatever length you want once it is posted. The character limit here really stinks though.

I'm guessing the rule is there ~just in case~ because things CAN happen and probably will. I assume a lot of the heavy Den players on Primal will head over for the tournament and possibly be in a team of 4-8. (joining with those that transferred over already a while ago) What happens if someone from a team of 4 has to back out and they have no substitute?

Just curious, but are there enough teams for this sort of thing to happen? (and not be a complete wipeout of anyone else that participates aside from like two teams)

Lol hey Straigus! The primary concern with allowing cross-server teams is if there's a random person queuing all languages it will mess up the matches and could potentially delayed the tournament. We've run into this in the solo queue event a few times, and I've had this issue before when setting up matches, so logistically in order to make the tournament run smoothly that's why we decided to have the same server rule.

    Also consider the following example:

Team1: Brd, Pld, Nin on server 1, Whm on server 2
Team2: Blm, War, Drg on server 3, Sch on server 4

When queuing there's no way to ensure the Whm goes to team 1 and the Sch goes to team 2.

That being said, in the interest of making the tournament as accessible to as many people as possible, I'm going to revise this rule. You can now have a team that spans 2 servers. If we allowed 3+ servers it would be almost impossible to ensure matches, but we'll try to work with with teams that span 2.

Allowing teams to have up to 8 players makes it so more people can participate while also allowing the tournament to flow smoother due to having backups. I also want to avoid a situation where a team shows up and some of their members are benched the entire time and don't even get to fight any matches. I do see your point that with 8 players you can have any counter composition ready, and also I think if a team has 8 people ready, they should probably just break up into 2 teams of 4 as then everyone gets more games. In light of this I'm changing the max number of people on each team to 6. Also with the change i mentioned above allowing cross-server queuing, it should hopefully be easier for people to come up with teams of up to 6. Also by posting this 1 month ahead of time, it should allow ample time for recruiting.

In terms of counter-picking, I'm going to amend the rules to use what is standard in the super smash bros melee community. When you fight a new team, you choose your team comp and have your first match (you don't let the other team know your comp ahead of time). After the match, the losing team is allowed to mix up their team comp, but the other team must stay with the same comp. The idea is this gives the defeated team a chance to strategize and counter their opponents. This should add some strategy to the matches and make it more interesting.

The original rules for this tournament were adapted from rules the jp tournaments have been using. Their rule regarding teams with more than 4 people is addressed here.

Q: Is it possible to fight by rotation the PT members by entries in the 4 or more people?
    A: You can

Good decision on revising the same-server rule. That makes more sense.

I appreciate your willingness to consider revisions to the rules. I see your point about wanting the tournament to run smoothly, but unfortunately anything higher than 4 players on a team has the same problems that I pointed out with the original 8 player rules. Allowing 6 or even 5 players on a team still only benefits one team, or at most very few teams, while putting all the other teams at a pretty substantial disadvantage. I really don't see the lack of backups affecting how smooth the tournament runs. Just because the Japanese allowed it in their tournament doesn't mean it's a good rule in this case Maybe all those jp teams had access to more good PvPers. The rule of 8 or 6 people per team would not be a problem if it benefited all the teams, but it does not even come close to that. Those extra players could be part of another team, which would help get more competition going ~

While your reasoning is fine logos and i do see the point you are making, you need to understand that if one of the 2 alternates in the team you are referring to moves and plays for another team, then the 2nd team will have to put up with connection issues and the possibility of the alternate dropping out because of the 8 hour timezone difference

You guys should discuss this somewhere else. `-` This looks like a completed event thread; It's a little rude to bombard it after people worked hard to even set this up in the first place. I understand that the concern could be genuine, but this discussion can really be better thought out elsewhere.

I do appreciate the effort put into setting this up, but where else would you suggest this discussion take place? It is specific to this tournament. As someone who wants to participate in the tournament and thus wants the rules to be fair, I don't see what is rude about raising my genuine concerns about the rules on this thread. It's better to discuss and revise now than right before or on the day of the tournament!
