Managed to do the last two quests with help from some of the fc (6 of the 8 players).

So now, I'm now on the relic axe quest, as well as the Astral era quests, and gc stuff also. I'm going to be quite busy for a little while.
Anything else to suggest?

If you've just finished the Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium, there's a whole lot more main story quest to do, but I guess you found those. I can also recommend the questline that starts at Wymond in Ul'dah, I don't remember the exact name but it's something to do with gentlemen. It gets pretty hilarious. XD

Just been checking, and it seems that all the astral era quests are from all the patches up to now.

Yeah pretty much. The astral era quests are the continuation of the Main Scenario story. You will need to get those done eventually before you can get into the Heavensward areas and story.

While I will first say that you really should do whatever interests you, I would warn you that out of all the end game content the full relic quest is very long and a huge time sink.

There are so many things you can do in this game. Beast tribe stuff, Hunts, Gold Saucer games, crafting and gathering..... Its a long list. Try stuff out and do whatever takes your fancy. You can also look at starting to unlock the Crystal Tower which is the 24 man raid and can reliably be done with the Duty Finder.

1st priority should be finish main story depending on your play time daily shouldnt take u that long.. with a month to go your really gotta be extremely rich n lucky to finish zeta in time.. once agin depends on your daily play time tho :P

Hey, I am in a similar position as you OP. Currently just got my Zenith weapon, and tbh I am thinking about just ignoring the transition higher for now... :/ The Atma quests are incredibly RNG, I have been doing FATES for half a day yesterday, and not a single Atma dropped, I really don't like those odds.

So question to more skilled players: Do I lose a lot by just going for the normal weapons of the same iLvl compared to the Atma/Zodiac weapons?

Right now if you can stand the grind, go ahead and work on your relic. If you meld your weapon with optimal stats it will be BiS once you get the Zeta(Zetas are even better than DW weapons if melded correctly!). If you don't have the time to complete it before expansion I would recommend just going for the tome weapons.

You do not. You can earn yourself 1,300 soldiery and run Syrcus Tower for both the tomestone (necessary) and a Sands of Time (not necessary, but it'll increase the weapon damage) to get yourself a ilv100~110 weapon. Alternatively you can also do the same with poetics and World of Darkness to get a ilv120~130 weapon. I personally would not upgrade your relic this late into the game, as catching up to 2.55 and finishing all current content will be more than enough to hold you over until 3.0, where we'll see a new relic quest line.
