Raids: The Unwritten Rule?

So my question is this: Do raids have an unwritten rule, where if you join a group in progress, you can't roll on upgrades? Is it considered "stealing" to outroll someone?

RNG is RNG. It shows no mercy; no exceptions.

Since it looks like both of you could Need it, it's safe to say that you out-rolled the other healer and won the loot fair and square. Unless the other healer asked if you could pass on a certain item upon your entry, I don't see a problem. Considering what the other members had said, it's most likely that the other healer had asked the previous healer that had abandoned if they could have the belt. Needless to say, either the healer did ask you about it but was probably lost in the chat box without you noticing, or he just didn't bother to say anything.

Personally, I do not roll on a piece of loot if I didn't participate in the fight. It would have been better to ask the other healer if he/she wouldn't have minded you rolling against them, normally I don't have a problem with "if you're that class, go ahead and roll on it" but when you had 0 participation in the fight, the courteous thing to do would have been to ask.

This situation really depends on your personal morals. I don't believe in taking what I didn't earn... at least not without asking first.

If you healed the fight, yeah you're entitled to any loot you want. If the other healer was waiting for a specific item to drop, they should have said so between bosses. I've joined WoD runs only needing 1-2 other pieces of loot and I'd see the same class as me and just being like, "Hey. I'm only missing this piece from here, mind if I get it if it drops? I'll stick around the whole fight and anything else that drops is yours, man." will get a far more positive response than having a hissy fit like your other healer did.

You did nothing wrong that loot was yours to win. There is no unwritten rule about loot drops when using the Duty Finder. If you need it and you can and you want it, then need it.

Other healer was just hurt because they were probably farming X piece for days and lost it when it dropped. Tough luck keep farming, that's how it works.

It took me 3 weeks to get the Healing Robe, and not once did I complain because that's how it works.

The only times when loot rules apply is when you are doing specific things if your Guild or friends and specify aspects if they are even needed, Otherwise anyone that complains about loosing loot needs to grow up, Thats just the harsh reality of the way it works. You are not entitled to ANYTHING.

If it's a DF group and you can roll need on something, you can roll need on it. That's the only rule there is, written or unwritten, and anything else people claim is a rule after the fact is just stupid bullshit to justify a tantrum over being out-rolled.

Totally different issue if it's a premade group via Party Finder with loot rules agreed in advance, but you don't invent rules for DF groups.
