I wonder how all the people who claim that "WINGS DON'T FIT THE LORE!" justify the fact that anyone with a few spare bucks can go and suddenly find the "unique" mount Sleipnir in their mail box.

Lore nothing. Wings, elemental horses, glowing weapons. This is the type of tacky stuff I'd expect to see on a teens Deviantart page when they're going through that extravagant phase. In my eyes, the less of it (or rather, the more sparing use of it), the better.
Sure, that's your own personal preference, that's fine. Some people try to pretend that wings "wouldn't make sense" or "don't fit the lore" etc., however.
"I don't like wings and I don't want to see other people with wings either" is fair enough a statement. "It doesn't fit the rest of the game" isn't.

I can agree to that at least. I see no reason why it wouldn't make sense lore wise.Sure, that's your own personal preference, that's fine. Some people try to pretend that wings "wouldn't make sense" or "don't fit the lore" etc., however.

While I disagree with their decision to put Sleipnir up for purchase, the fight with Odin is in game, is it not?
My problem with wings is that there is nothing to support their being in game.
And then there's that.
Then put something in the game that supports it. Or just make it a Veteran Reward - because the other Veteran Rewards don't give a hoot if they are supported by other stuff in the game or not. Random huge, tame Behemoth for us to ride on in the mail box? Where's the lore support for that? Bar its own description in the mount log, there is none. Put the pair of wings in the mount log, add an explanation they come up with, and voilà.
And honestly, the fact that we fight Odin in this game, and the fact that his mount is supposed to be unique, and the fact that Odin doesn't drop it seem to be reasons NOT to have his mount for sale in the cash shop, rather than support.

The things rewarded from the veteran rewards; as far as mounts, can be explained through beast taming/training.Then put something in the game that supports it. People want wings, but don't want to include reasons as to how/why they would exist. Some people don't want them and provide reasons as to why they wouldn't fit. So far your argument has been "this stuff that's already in game doesn't make sense to me! Let's also add wings for that same reason!" My argument has been about the cohesion of lore or assumed lore.
It is a fair argument. If it weren't sold then it would have most likely have been a drop from Odin. And uniqueness is not an argument that belongs in ANY MMO. Otherwise there should be people annoyed with the fact there seems to be a lot of Sasukes that showed up with "Sasuke's Blade" and a lot of Paladins were around that had "Excalibur" when said weapon/s belonged to a SINGLE person. And honestly, the fact that we fight Odin in this game, and the fact that his mount is supposed to be unique, and the fact that Odin doesn't drop it seem to be reasons NOT to have his mount for sale in the cash shop, rather than support.
I'm sorry if this is coming off as rude, but I'm trying to get people to rationalize how wings will work within lore or assumed lore. Instead of "I want wings! Dev team figure it out!"

the same reason there are multiple versions of all the avatars. those Sleipnirs aren't real, they are imitations made from Aether. the one we fight in Duty and in the Shroud aren't real either.
the lore question here is
1) are they physical appendages of the existing races? if yes, why didn't we have them before, why do the NPCs of these races not have them?
2) if they are not physical appendages what are they? just magic? if it's a magical spell that let characters fly, it doesn't necessarily have to look like wings. characters have flown in cutscenes before without wings.
3) if they are not physical appendages and it's not magic, what is it? in theory you can have a mount that looks like a pair of wings, some kind of bat/bird that instead of the character mounting it, latches on to a character's back and picks them up. the Bomb Palanquin didn't have to be a Palanquin at all, it could've been 6 bombs with hooks that just hooked onto the character's shoulders and dragged them around. that's purely an aesthetics issue.
so the question becomes, why do some people want wings?
do they want to add physical appendages to all the races? i don't see why they would.
do they want to fly without a mount? just so you can fly slower?
so the actual request really should be either
1) let us fly with magic without mounts but slower, but this would theoretically cost MP or TP. personally i'm cool with using MP to levitate to certain spots on the map without having to call and dismiss a mount.
2) gives us a mount that looks like a pair of wings attached to our backs but they are not actually wings of the existing races. i don't necessarily want this but i would like to see some flying mounts where the animation have us under them instead of being on top of them.
