I could see Cid giving players a Flying Mount that was essentially a Magitek Harness or something. Mechanical Wings for gliding or something

Wings would be grand; fitting for my main character. (Rinoa) But I wouldn't like them permanent just like mountable: can be summoned.

Darn why did Aion have been so hard for me to get involved in? Those are some nifty wings.
For FFXIV... maybe not so much.

To be honest I really don't like wings. It's ugly as fuck.
EDIT: I only use the wings from wedding when I derping around and cast Holy or Benediction .

Pass on the wings. There's a reason the civilizations delve into airships/tech. Giving us wings for the sake of wings will just come off as extremely contrived, and yes "because a mage maed da spell" would fall into that category as well.
I'd rather we stuck to airships/tech and beasts as mounts, as it's already heavily integrated into the lore.
I dunno. Wings scream special snowflake to me.

Wings on my primal mounts? :3

Since you wanted someone to respond to mechanics ideas and not just appearance (I think personal wings look stupid in about 95% of instances, for that record) Let's run down the list:
Terrible idea, now the zone designers need to stick in MORE random little floaty bits than necessary to justify the whole concept. Good luck telling where that unspoiled node is, too, since you only get XY coordinates.Originally Posted by Zoner

Which we already have flying mounts to do, which even relatively intelligently can tell when to switch from land to flight. But if I can just fly, why bother with those?Originally Posted by Zoner
flying in new zones,
Awesome, let's travel old zones in a fashion that lets us totally ignore the zone design AND the scenery. Don't forget that most zones were never designed to be viewed from a perspective off the ground, so now we need to redesign every single one to work with personal flight.Originally Posted by Zoner
glide from high places in old zones,
Welp, that mob was just a little too low, sorry it killed you. Aerial combat is hard, at best, and the combat of FFXIV is optimized for flat planes for a reason.Originally Posted by Zoner
maybe even entire dungeons that flying is part of the mechanics!
Now we need to balance every single piece of content against the possibility that someone has an extra piece of gear on. Also we need multiple sets of wings, plus a new wing for each primal, plus one for each class for each raid tier, plus tomestone versions, and gee, what about one as a veteran reward?Originally Posted by Zoner
stats could be added to the Wings as well as glamors.
Flying is rarely executed well, and flying in areas not built for it is just a recipe for disaster. Add in all the resources to even put it in, and that's a lot of content or other improvements that could be added to the game for the ability to do something we're already getting the ability to do in Heavensward.

I do not like the idea... There's enough bells and whistles as it is in the recent poetics gear - wings are just so ostentatious.
I don't mind wings appearing as part of abilities (DRG limit break w midy's wings; healer limit break with angels healing the party; pld ability that is seraph-themed etc) but a literal pair of wings does not suit my palates personally
No. I'd rather they use the developement time to make a proper glamour system.
Wings don't fit FFXIV. Please consider the world you are in before making such suggestions. We really don't need this childish way of looking cool.
