    Server Lag Issues?

    Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I'm not trying to rant. I'm trying to figure out If I can do something to improve my game play. So I started playing FFXIV RR when patch 2.0 came out, great game i loved it but the server lag was crazy and what i mean by that is you can be in a fight running out of a spell and on your screen your out but you still get hit. I guess sq enix fixed alot of the lag when they fixed the refresh rate. However I recently came back to the game and I still see the same issues, tonight while doing my relic quest and other 8 mans if you dont move out right away when the boss is still casting you still get hit. I dont understand why some games you can stand there till you see it go off move out and you wont get hit. So I'm trying to figure out if I can do something to improve what i see vs what actually happens. I understand that you need to move out asap its just annoying because on my screen its still casting but my character still gets hit.

    If you're on about what I think you are, then for whatever reason, SE made it like this.
    Telegraph of where it's gonna hit > Animation of move followed by damage.
    If you're in the telegraph when it dissapears, then you'll take the damage even if you're standing as far away as possible while the mob goes through the move animation.

    I had great fun with goblins and their bomb throw way back in ARR beta. Standing behind the goblin? Tough. Still getting hit. To me, the register for if you get hit should be when the bomb lands on the targetted area, not before. It's a false sense of security. I've had to explain this 'issue' to someone I work with that was interested in the game incase they, like you, thought it was just lag related. There are a few exceptions to the rule, like Titan (which you need to watch the cast bar, not be fooled by the telegraph animation).

    But it is getting better, like in World of Darkness where the damage matches up to the telegraph/animation. It's just a shame (imo) that the older ones are not 'fixed' to behave the same. It can lead to a very misleading experience for new people.

    Don't depends on the attack animations, the telegraph on the ground is the tagging system. It tags anyone who still standing inside while it disappeared. So no matter where you run after the telegraph tagged you. You will get hit regardless the animation load after.

    PC specs? This sounds like a performance issue.

    My old machine benchmarked around 3500 minimum settings... I couldn't dodge anything without pre-emptive reaction time.

    My new machine benchmarks around 8000 maximum settings DX 11... I feel like i have time to go get a sandwich and come back to dodge the mechanic.

    If it was lag you'd get a different effect. You wouldn't see enemy casting... you wouldn't see other characters moving. Everything would be stopped momentarily and only your character would be making actions. Then you'd get a fast forward effect to catch everything back up.
