Limit Breaking - General rules of?

    Hello

Right, the Naval incident over with, I've gotten a bit braver. In lieu of this, I've been through a few dungeons now, and I'm just curious as to how to use limit breaks within a party?

I went on a few runs today and had the following conversation:

    Party member: Lb.
Me: ....*happily carries on smacking things.*
    Party member: DARWIN LB
Me: ....Roger! *hits button sullenly* >.>
(nobody told me this was part of my 'thing' here XD)

    * as I understand it, there's ONE gauge for the entire party, right - so is it always the role of DPS to initiate it (my main class is Dragoon - so melee DPS) ?
    * secondly, if this is the case, why is it me and not the other guy who has to initiate it? Are they just foisting it off onto me lol

    thanks in advance

Limit break changes based on role of who uses it. Healer does raise/heal on everyone, melee dps is single target damage, magic dps does aoe damage, tank does defensive buff I think.

Yeah I got that bit thank you for the info My question was more along the lines of, is it expected of the DPS to use it moreso? That's the impression I've gotten from a few runs unless I'm wrong...

Unless there is something to be mitigate or your party is on the verge of wipe, dps is always expected to limit break. Though this excludes brd limit break cause lolbrdLB. In dungeon and in a decent or better run. There isnt any need for a tank or healer limit break. So the "default" option is to dps limit break.

Hope that answers your question. If not, sorry

Because melee DPS has the strongest limit break.

Healer/tank limit breaks don't do damage so they're useless.. BRD has... healer LB who knows why.. then BLM/SMN LB are aoe, thus weaker than yours on the boss.

So yes, if you're finishing off the boss, go ahead and use it, they're not trying to boss you around, there's just no need to use a healer LB on a regular dungeon boss..

Ahhh okay, logic was never my strong point XP Unless we're in danger of wiping, no def or healing LBs are needed. And makes sense that I use it if i'm the only melee in the party. Gotcha.

I get frustrated in dungeons frequently because I still don't entirely know what I'm doing sometimes lol. Then we all run in and I'm running around after them like the village idiot. I always check with people what to do before we go into boss fights etc but it's basic stuff like this I'm missing. Cheers for the responses

Now, now. Healer and tank LB is hardly useless. I've saved a few dungeon runs LBing at the right time as a bard.

Buuuut yes normally melee, caster, healer, tank is the usual order, unless something specific is called for (you really don't have to worry about this for a while though.)

In general, Melee LB has the highest priority. You also don't want to save it until the boss is already at 1-2% (Because a lot of that damage will be wasted in overkill) - use it as soon as it's full, and safe to, on a given boss. If there are no melee, Caster LB should be used. If the only DPS are bards, what the heck, do whatever.

When you advance onto later content, you'll be able to LB3 instead of LB2, and a big distinction is that healer's LB3 will immediately raise everyone, which other levels of LB won't. When this happens, you generally save melee DPS until the last 4-5%, at which point it's clear you'll clear - but until then LB3 is often saved for emergency saves.

Tank LB3 and Caster LB3 are also ideal for certain boss fights for various reasons, and a handful of advanced fights will use these LBs over the standard priority for very specific situations.

Ahhh, I see so they upgrade for higher level dungeons/harder modes? Good to know. To be honest, I've been a little afraid of banging in the LBs before time. Explains why people were getting frustrated with me if I'm sat on the LB seemingly scratching my butt with my lance haha. Helpful tips thanks
