Lol, if a BLM was tanking everything when I had to tank it I would not only find that "fun" but humorous! =P

They are needed, what gave you that silly notion girl? People play a tank to be infront of the group and keep aggro, but Tank DPS without tank stance isn't that bad. If it is they need a DPS increase. Although At least I don't feel bad DPS when I play my tank. Then again, I just do dungeons.

I've been playing Tanks since 2003, yeah they are hard to play. However I don't get butthurt if a DPS rips aggro. I consider the "tank" the one with the aggro, if hes ripping from me it means hes just a better tank.

You are completly missing her point, If a low level tank goes into an instance and always get overpower overzealous DPS (which there is alot of them) he will feel completly useless and even wonder why he's bothering to try and tank and most likely quit to join the DPS fray in fourth making the tanking community lose once more what possibly could have been a good tank because he was unable to be given the chance to see if he was good enough.

And again it may not bother you but maybe it would bother someone else.

This was exactly what happened to me back, even back in 2.0. At that time i was a White Mage most of my time, but coming from 1.0 i basically had most of my classes leveled to 50 already. Since there was a shortage of Tanks in our Linkshell/Free Company, i decided to pick up my Warrior which i had leveled back in 1.0.

At that time, the best gear you could get was the Myth gear combined with the Zenith Relic weapon and all i had to show for was a Garuda Axe with Hoplite gear which i gradually tried to upgrade with crafted Darksteel gear (a friend of my made for me).

I was totally green when it came to tanking and i just couldn’t keep hate during runs where people were wearing their Myth gear combined with a Zenith. I can tell you… Those runs were torture for me. No one eased up for me, even when i begged to slow down so that i could regain TP and (hope) to keep hate with the next pull. It was around that time where people had been clearing dungeons like Wanderer’s Palace and Amdapor Keep multiple time, so they wanted to pull multiple groups or even speed run it. Even friends of mine didn’t go easy on me.

I got to a point where i felt useless as a tank and i hated running dungeons with some of my friends or at least people with better gear than me, because i knew i would have a horrible time in that dungeon. I wanted to quit tanking then and there.

At that time, a friend of mine (who was a carrier tank in the FC) told me that playing as Warrior simply might not suit my playstyle and suggested that i should give Paladin a try. My Gladiator was level 15 at that time, but i picked up that class and leveled it through the low level dungeons. He would give advice on how to tank as a Gladiator and which skills to use when and where.

It was a long road for me to reach Level 50 as a tank, but running those dungeons with the limited skills i had within those dungeons did teach me how certain skills worked. I had an easier time during the Wanderer’s Palace and Amdapor Keep runs and managed to keep hate a lot better than i did as a Warrior.

After finally gearing myself up as a iLvl 90 Paladin, my friends asked me if i wanted to join their BCoB static since they were missing a member. They were on Turn 5 at that time, while i hadn’t even set foot into BCoB. Ever…

At first i started going in as a Bard, but once we reached Turn 4, they asked me if i could to go as a tank instead. I was not prepared for the difference in skill required for BCoB when i did and failed horribly.

But, that same friend that taught me how to tank Dungeons, was the Main Tank in the static, so we talked a lot about what i did wrong and what i could do to improve my tanking skills.

This has helped me tremendously and now, a few years later, the 2 of us are still the tanks of the Coil static and we’ve recently managed to get Turn 13 in farming mode.

    So, long story short…

    TL;DR

Yes, there are (plenty of) people who would feel the same way as Kathryn mentioned in her post. Since we’re playing a MMO with other people of different skill levels, it would be great of more people would actually stop and try to help those who are struggling.

You can do it by either slowing down so that they can go at it at their own pace or giving them tips on how to handle certain situations. But, at least show some consideration and respect that not everyone is not on “your level” and not insult/berate them.
