It is. They are doing something but it's the equivalent (in terms of effectiveness) of trying to put out a forest fire with a squirt gun. SE has shown a real knack for social engineering in this game. I'm surprised they haven't gotten a better solution than what we have now.

The powers that be don't experience the same issues we do. To the devs, the weekly sweeps do their job perfectly, even if they're made aware that it doesn't help other servers. Remember Yoshi-P's response about Titan and needing to zoom out the camera to survive mechanics caused by the lag? LOL! RMT primarily target NA/EU servers, though not just because its the most profitable. It's because they know better than to overly bother the servers that devs themselves frequent. The last time they did that, which was during launch of 2.0, SE took large scale action against them. Unless you experience it firsthand, and over a course of time, you won't understand the severity of any matter. Granted though, that initial action was absolutely intolerable to the MMORPG experience of a paid subscription service, irrelevant to what servers you use. If it wasn't through /shout flooding messages every millisecond, it was /tells being flooded every millisecond.

Obviously, right now is nowhere near as bad, but it is slowly picking up as more time goes on. SE will have to take appropriate measures into hand sooner than later. Then again, the devs are impressively naive when it comes to QoL and consequences of player/consumer freedoms.

Yeah, there have been a number of threads about how the JP servers aren't really seeing this problem. The consensus was that it's a mix of reasons that it happens, but the result is the same - the game devs don't see it.

The bots and RMT sellers are on the JP servers just as much as they are on the other servers. The only difference is that there they do not spam/send whispers/send friend requests...because they know better than to shake the hornets nest in the owners' back yard.
