I'm sure I'm not the only one (crazy enough) to have FFXIV on both my PS3 and on PC (because there are 2 gamers in my household, and it's just convenient when we both want to play games at the same time).

I know that I would have to purchase Heavensward for both units in order to play it on one as well as the other, but I can't afford to get them both at the same time. The reason for my question, however is regarding the Au Ra.

If I have a character who is an Au Ra created on the device which has Heavensward, does that mean I cannot play her on the other device? Or is it just the character classes (and their associated quests and locations associated with them) that are affected by this?

There was a dev message that answered a question about having Heavensward on one platform but not another just by saying you can only access the Ishgard regions from the Heavensward-enabled platform, so should return to an ARR region before logging out if you plan to log in next from an ARR-only platform.

From the way it was described, it really sounded to me as though the regions are the only part that would be locked to the HW-platform only. The new race and classes would require HW on your account (and can presumably only be created / unlocked from the Heavensward-enabled platform), but he didn't mention anything about not being able to log in from the ARR-only platform of an account like this.

I play on both Windows and PS4. What do I need to purchase?

You will need to purchase both the Windows and PS4 versions of the expansion to play the new content on both platforms. If you would like the exclusive bonus items from the Collector's Edition, you can get them with either the Windows or PS4 version as they will be linked to a single service account. Heavensward must be installed on the client to access the areas that will be added in Heavensward. If you are planning to log back in on a client that doesn't have Heavensward installed, make sure to log out in an FFXIV: ARR area.

Ok, it's true that he never actually says you can continue to play your Au Ra character on both systems, but in those last couple sentences where he's directly discussing a case of having HW on one platform and not the other, he only describes the limitation in terms of regions.

That's the closest I've seen to an answer.

The race would have to be playable on either system if unlocked on one. They have to upload race textures and animations or else those without expansion wouldn't even be able to see any players that made a new race.
