Eorzea's Next Top Model - Cycle 4 Round 3

Welcome back, everyone! The Cosplay round was once again a huge success with some fantastic work from all of our models! Unfortunately we had to say farewell to three - so it's goodbye to Aeon, Arrelaine and Kaya. We hope to see you continue to take part!

So, it's on to round three! During the course of A Realm Reborn, we got to know the various beast tribes much better through the course of their various quests - so Round 3 challenged the models to take a shot in one of their camps! The requirement was that it HAD to be in the area where you receive quests from one of the beast tribes.

So, here we go! Voting is the same as before, order the models according to your preference. This week we're losing two!

Ahh wow all of these are really great, it's gonna be tough choosing!!

Nozomi Kei // I absolutely ADORE this shot. The angle, the lighting, the pose. It's very calming and gives me this really great feeling of sitting around the fire with someone you care about. Definitely my favourite shot of the bunch.
Brun Hilda // A really close second, I really like the concept and how you pulled it off, making it look like the Kobold was almost giving you a push in your chair. So great ;o;
Tinsley Tr'uhart // I love the serenity of it, and the composition, it really is great. I feel like it's a little empty on the right, though.
Sunny Day // Again, I love the concept of this it's really cute! The lighting is great and I really enjoy the background you chose. It almost looks like it could be a wallpaper! Unfortunately, I feel like your expression could be a little more interesting. A smile, maybe, or a smirk.
Stephen Fairbrook // This is such a cute idea, I love it, but I think you're a little too small in it. You don't feel like the focal point, so it detracted a bit from the shot.
Alexion Skylark // I like your background and the time of day, but I'm not sure I'm feeling the outfit. A ship captain, maybe? It doesn't feel very Sahagin to me, though.
Katarh Mest // I like your pose and the lighting, but compared to the other screenshots it feels a bit plain, the competition was so fierce this round!!
Hopelle Losstoam // This shot has a pretty good composition, but you fade into the background so much I almost didn't notice you! During the day might have been better, or maybe some sort of effect to draw attention to you.
Epsil Ion // This is unfortunately a miss for me. I'm just not feeling the concept, it feels like you're just posing next to them rather than utilizing them in the concept of your shot. :c

This week's were rather well done, but I feel there were some hits and misses. All amazing shots! Though I'm not sure if all really fit the theme all too well. Didn't really hate any shot, but some stuck out more than others this week for me personally. Just some small insights from me, nothing bad I assure you.

1. Brun Hilda - GURL... You nailed it this week! It's so well thought out and sooooo goood! Truly sticking to the Kobold's aesthetic, I'm loving it! Great use of the mount that actually comes from the Kobolds themselves! Love you picked the Kobold NPC that has all the tiny bombs surrounding him, really great choice! Background is a lil plain, but meh. Lighting is spot on, can easily and clearly see your character. Ok choice for glamors as well. I'm just so in love with your shot this week, GREAT JOB! <3 <3
2. Stephen Fairbrook - Rather nice shot this week! So many things made me happy in this shot, first.. IXALI! <3 I love them guys sooo much! My fave beastmen tribe atm, secondly night time shot! <3, and thirdly natural lighting!!! I love when that can be pulled off ^.^ Love your posing and framing, great use of NPCs as well, just wish you were zoomed in just a smidge. Otherwise just really happy with everything! Keep up the fabulous work! <3
3. Nozomi Kei - Wow! Just amazing truly amazing! I really love the work and improvement you've made since your first shot! You really captured the essence of the Amalj'aa soo well! Brotherhood, that's what it is all about, and I'm loving it! Yay more night time shots! And natural lighting! <3 Only thing I'd haveta say about this shot otherwise, is I wish you had some blue on you to match up with the Amalj'aa a lil more!, but other than that just love'in it sooo freaking much! Keep up the amazing work! So strong!
4. Epsil Ion - Another Amalj'aa shot >:3 Really nice use of glamors here, and I love the background and usage of NPCs, I just wish your daggers weren't blocking so much of your face though ; ; Also good use of lighting as well! Really pleased with your shot this week.
5. Hopelle Losstoam - More Amalj'aa!!!(yes I am using this word a lot, I finally learned how to spell it tonight lol) I really love this shot a lot! Definitely brings the sense of brotherhood that the Amalj'aa are best known for, I love the night, the lighting! I'm not too crazy about your top, but it still works and is blue to it kinda coordinates with the Amalj'aa. I just wish you were zoomed in a lil' more, ofc zooming in might not have the same effect of your overall shot! It's still a wonderful shot! Great work this week ^.^
6. Tinsley Tr'uhart - Really beautiful shot this week, I'm really loving it! But... idk.. something feels slightly off to me? Maybe the lighting, or that it's a back shot, I feel like it's all there as one shot, but there is one component that just doesn't fit too well. Maybe if you were a lil closer to the NPC's or interacting with them, it might give off a more complete vibe/look. Such beautiful framing work though, and I love the evening shot (can you guys tell I love night shots? haha...)
7. Katarh Mest - YaY! More Ixali! <3 I'm really feeling this shot a lot! You have this "Can Do!" attitude about you, which is what the Ixali there are all about when it comes to getting back up to the heavens! Really looks like you're ready to work and work hard! Help them Ixali! I just wish you were actually closer to the Ixal in your background(if that's possible), and maybe tilted at somewhat of an angle, your background is kind of flat, but I know working with that particular campsite can get tricky XD. It's still a really great shot overall! Good Job! ^.^b
8. Sunny Day - This is such a beautiful shot! It would have wowed and amazed anyone looking at it, though... I really couldn't tell right off the bat that you were in any particular place, especially near a beastmen camp, until I looked further and harder and finally saw the beastmen behind you and your friend. I'm not sure if the glamors you chose really work all that well with the Amalj'aa either. You're lighting is spot on! I just wish there was more interaction with the beastmen or the camp itself!
9. Alexion Skylark - Wow, this is such a gorgeous shot! Such a beautiful background, and such a nice capture of the sunset! I'm not sure I'm too crazy about your glamor choice though, it really doesn't tie in at all with the Sahagin in the surrounding area, and I'm not sure, but are you close to the actual camp of the because until I actually search and search for those Sahagin in the background I really couldn't tell. It's such a well done shot too! So beautifully framed well, the lens flare just connects straight to your character and draws you to the focal point of the shot! I just wish you had tied the theme in a lil better, still great work this week. Can really see such amazing improvements!

Amazing work models, really amazing work! Again, I just tried to give you some small insights on what viewers/judges might like, again I'm no expert, I'm just reminiscing off of what I went through as a model as well. If anything is offense in the slightest, Please let me know immediately and I'll amend it ASAP!

Once again, just want to say: fantastic job, everyone! There are some really great shots in this round--and some really creative ones. Nice use of lighting and scenery, though a few seemed to 'get lost' in the shot. This was a tough round for me as you are all wonderful. Best of luck, everyone! My ranking is:

So many Amalj’aa this round No love for Sylphs at all?
I’m saying right off the bat - so I don’t repeat myself endlessly - the problem I see with nightshots and the Amalj’aa is that they tend to blend into the darkness and their surroundings a bit much.

PS: I usually write out my critiques and THEN put them into order, so you might see references to people ranked lower in your critique. ^^; Don't want to rewrite now...


Brun Hilda - I love this! It is one of the few shots this round where there is the illusion of interaction with your chosen beasttribe.The angle, the framing of the bombs, they all also give this feelings of depth. I mean, come on! How damn long are your legs? They’re endless! XD I also love that smile of yours, looking back at the kobold, as if you heard his comment. Your face says “I’m on to you mister! No way I’m forking over all that gil for this!”

Sunny Day - This picture made me laugh our loud. Those pants definitly have an oriental dancer feel. Beautiful lighting as well, but one thing I could have seen as improvement is to put you two further into the cave entrance. It would frame the picture a bit better using the natural frame of the stone and also make the Amalj’aa more prominent, as well as lessen the empty space on the left. With your shot it’s less of an issue with the Amalj’aa blending into the darkness - you chose early evening and it works in your favour - and more them blending into the distance.

Nozomi Kei - I am a bit of a sucker for things like using foreground objects as framing devices - like the fire here. Similar to Brun Hilda you got a nice dimension in your picture with the fire as well as the Amalj’aa’s arm. Two things that bother me slightly: As already mentioned, the Amalj’aa and darkness don’t work so well together. The fire works in your favour here, but the head is very washed out against the darkness, partially also because the light draws so much focus on you and the side of the frame. The other thing is your gear. It just seems an odd choice or a touch random. Not to mention red is the colour of the bad Amalj’aa!

Stephen Fairbrook - This is pretty much the only other shot aside from Brun Hilda’s where we see some “active” interaction in my opinion. The concept is great and you really fit in well. The problem is with your size and current outfit colours, you blend a bit into the wood. If you had gone Katarh’s route, with some more colourful clothes to stand out more, this would have been much higher!

Katarh Mest - I dunno, I just really like this. There are so many dark shots in this round, you stand out with your brightness. It’s simple, yet you really played with the colours here, making it looks like the colour scheme of the Ixali almost. You could have played a bit more with angles and positioning though. For example a profile or ¾ shot might have been good, with you actually facing the airship, and a bit more on the right side, not centered. Otherwise this is a joy for my eyes this round!

Tinsley Tr'uhart - My lady, that is one beautiful back! (No I don’t have a fetish, go away!) Really, great look, great pose… Sadly I’m not sure it works very well here. As veteran you know how people like offcentered shots, but in this picture it really leads to some dead space on the left. with both you and the Sahagin on the right, I just feel it’s a bit unbalanced. Plus… it’s a personal nitpick, but that shore does not look very inviting for bikini bathing… watchful eyes or not. Cut you out, put you on a nice beach at night in costa and bam, hello new wallpaper.

Hopelle Losstoam - Really nice framing but… you have a similar problem as Stephen, as well as the Amalj’aa’s heads. You blend in just a bit too much. The top helps get you out of that slump a bit, but it kinda feels off with your entire outfit coordination. Some really strong royal blue, you a bit closer to the fire and it might have worked. :/ Sorry, even the song does not help much.

Alexion Skylark - I like the sun and lighting but… similar to Epsil, you kinda lost me here. The blurb helps a bit, but almost makes the picture too dependant on it. (More and more I feel there is a fine line of nice addition and dependency with these blurbs.) Things that could have made this concept work a touch more, would be getting you off center to the right, step a bit further back so the Sahagin on the left come more into focus. Have you turn a touuuch more toward them so that your eyeline actually goes more into their direction than front. That might have made this work. As is, I’m sorry, but not working for me.

Epsil Ion - Out of the 3 veeery similar by-the-fire shots… yours makes the least sense to me. Colourwise you’re a bit closer than the others to match the beast tribe, but I fail to see the connection here. I’m a bit surprised, you started out with two visually striking pictures, but this looks very ordinary almost. You could stand anywhere in Eorzea with that pose and look badass but that’s pretty much it. :/
