Purchaseing the Steam version

Ok so after a long wait for a support after being unable to register the Steam version of the game to my square-enix account. I feel the warning for the steam version needs to be updated and explicitly say this.

A Square Enix Account without any previous Windows version of FFXIV registered IS REQUIRED.

Instead of:

A Square Enix Account without any previous Windows version of FFXIV registered, may receive 30 days of free game time.

The second wording which is what it currently says on the main storepage on steam is extremely misleading. It's not stateing anything about If you already have a windows version you will not be able to add that key to your account. There for the ability to use your steam wallet for purchases will not work Unless you are willing to start over 100%.

Pretty much I was just burned for the cost of the steam version.

Steam soured me sorely by locking me down to their platform since I mistakenly purchased the PC version from them (this means I have to wait for them to finally make HW available on steam until I can order it).

Stay safe. Never get an MMO from Steam. They lock you forever onto their platform and it is impossible to transfer the character data to a non-steam PC version without starting a new toon.
