Even if he could, there's the ST/SCoB tomestone he'd need, so not an option.I dont remember if the older dungeons give soldiery, but you can probably purchase the soldiery weapons once you hit level 50 (Weathered Conquerer ilevel 100) , which will make tanking a lot easier. It will still be hard though since most people will probably double your ilevel.
I'd say hit the MB and snag a giantsgall axe. Level 70 and quite cheap due to common materials.
The most logical path is to get the level 55 barbarian's Bardiche simply because you can use it to start the relic quest after you have finished the last 2 story dungeons and it will be sufficient enough to get you that far. Considering you have to hand the axe in after melding it for the quest you will require a secondary weapon for the Amdapor keep and primal parts following on from that, the easiest weapon to get would be the level 55 grand company weapons since then it doesn't cost you anything to use.
The hardest part will be Amdapor keep simply because you will be the only tank for that dungeon and most likely very much lesser geared than the other people you are with.
If you don't have the grand company rank or the seals (even though it would be very easy and quick to farm them) a HQ vintage bill (expensive to buy but very easy and cheap to make) probably the best sub 50 weapon and might possibly be enough to get you past Amdapor where doing ifrit, garuda and titan will mean you will likely have a bunch of high levels doing most of the work for you at that point you will have completed the relic quest line and gotten a level 80 weapon.
I'm going to disagree with some people in this thread about starting and getting a relic weapon. At this stage of the game, your best bet would be to save up some money (start crafting and sell low level crafting items if you have to) enough to buy the 110 wootz axe. Even normal quality would be perfectly fine. This will give you a huge leg up into starting to tank end game.
The relic is done within 5 days at max. Then other 1-2 days to get the tomes to upgrade it to a Zenith.I'm going to disagree with some people in this thread about starting and getting a relic weapon. Faster than starting to save up money.
Even 5 days is not even trying. My friend got to 50 last week and we got him within that evening. We had to buy/make a few minor pieces like jewelry (only even ilvl 55 stuff too), to reach the item level requirements for Titan(HM).
He actually had the needed solidiery for the upgrade from the main scenario quests he did once he reached 50, in addition to the Adampor Keep and the Primals.
We did like one extra dungeon to get the Zenith.
Don't forget if you're new to the instances, you get bonus solidiery which is quite a lot anyway.
Then 90 weapon isn't that high, but it takes nothing to get. Probably 3 hours max.
Except that's a lot of money. One million+ gil is not a quick achievement, especially if you're fresh to fifty.I'm going to disagree with some people in this thread about starting and getting a relic weapon. Anyway, for Castrum and Praetorium, really any axe that's decently levelled (around level 45-50) will work. Keep in mind they were designed to be done by players who had only just hit level 50, so it's not like you'll be expected to have a level 60 axe or anything.
That said, getting a high item level axe soon is a good idea for aggro reasons; otherwise, be ready for many non-tanks to steal aggro and tank just fine in early level 50 content. There's no way you'll be able to hold aggro against a skilled and geared DPS when you've only got an i45-i70 weapon, although at this point those DPS are also going to be geared well enough to tank just fine if need be.
Finally, I second the motion to grab your Berserker's Bardiche - once you complete Praetorium you can start the relic quest, which will turn that into an i80 weapon for you that's super easily enhanceable to i90 shortly after and will carry you through the majority of level 50 content.

The i90 pvp stuff is very easy to get.

Don't you need an average ilvl of 80 to enter pvp? Would you want someone in level 50 gear on your team anyway? The i90 pvp stuff is very easy to get.

A lot of easy weapon options are only easy if you're already geared.
No, see, I can't agree with this at all. It's got A good stat (and I'm not talking morale), but alot of tank armor has a decided lack of accuracy and if you're going to be doing any tanking you're going to need accuracy. The i90 pvp stuff is very easy to get.

You can enter with lower than i80.
It's just synced to i80 if you're above it.
Lots of axes don't have accuracy. (Garuda Axe, Titan Axe, Shiva Axe, Warrior Relic, Ramuh Axe, Levi Axe, Dreadwyrm Axe...etc.)
And for a fresh 50 accuracy isn't super relevant since most level 50 content (Dungeons, HM primals, GEX/TEX/IEX...etc.) actually doesn't have a notably high accuracy cap at all.
The i90 pvp axe is very easy to get. It's like, 6 or 7 Frontlines runs without having to deal with drop RNG.
