Heavensward physical Collector's Edition sold out already??

So I just went and checked Amazon.com out of curiosity, which is where I buy most of my games, except those with a pre-order bonus requiring being bought at a specific retailer, and to my complete and utter surprise the Collector's Edition says "Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."

I mean I know FFXIV has over 4 million registered now making it among the most popular subscription based MMOs ever released behind WoW, but I still find it shocking it sold out in 3 days. I wasn't planning on pre-ordering it until April as I was certain there would still be some. Or has Amazon never put it up yet and only a holding spot?

As said it's still available through the SE store. It's possible that the scenario they went with was they were only going to send a set amount to retailers and that number wouldn't change. With the SE store itself though they will output however much is needed aka almost like a leftover amount since in terms of the SE store they can produce the product whereas retailers can't.

I believe what they are aiming to do is reduce the odds of retailers having leftover copies by purposely limiting the amount they have in stock.

So if you do wish to get the CE again as mentioned above the NA store still isn't sold out.

Just to add rq, you have to keep in mind that that statue is a rather intricate model so they most likely don't want retailers to have a surplus of stock leftover in which SE could potentially lose a lot of money by giving retailers to much to hold onto.

I would have to hunt down the post somewhere but they did say other retailers would have a very limited supply. Just buy it from the SE store.

What is probably happening is that other retailers will get the SE leftovers, kind of how they did it with FF Type-0. The Collector's Edition started out only being available on the SE Online Store, then about a month and half before the game launched other retailers started taking pre-orders on the Type-0 Collector's Edition. There is a good chance we are seeing the same thing happen here as one of the biggest video game distributor's (GameStop/EB Games) has not yet received any allocation for the item (and yes they are the biggest distributor usually holding 60-70% of the Market Share during a game's launch).

With this method Square-Enix cuts cost but cutting out the middle-man (retailers) and grabs up all the die hard fans that pre-order on day one (or there about). Then the left over consumers--A) ones who don't trust the ship to your house model B) on the fence about getting the CE or C) Need the item to be sold to them--can pick up the rest of the Collector's Editions at a retailer; where SE can still make profit obviously but still gained the most but cutting out the retailer as long as possible. It's a pretty smart move if you ask me, and I'm fairly certain this is something we are dealing with. Business as usual.

Hang tight, gang! No retailers outside of the SE Online Store in North America have begun selling their Collector's Editions yet.
They're still in the process of setting them up. Once they're available, we'll pass it on!

Wait so they will be available outside of the SE store?? This would have been good to know earlier. But it sounded like the CE's were only available from the SE store. Confusing and misleading
