Dragoon lore seems skewed now. Anyone know whats happening?

The new storyline in the expo? I mean, the black dragoon is the one we kinda shit on.. aaaaaaaaand there was only supposed to be one holy dragoon. Yet there seems to be an army of them now?

I mean I get that the midgarsormer is using us, and we're linked to him so our power reflects that instead of nids powers, so the new armor and new LB and such are the way they are, so that explains why there would be two holy dragoons now. HOWEVER THE ARMY OF DRAGOONS DOESNT MAKE SENSE LORE WISE. :<

Nor does the black dragoon being alive.


Sooo, was anything said about this by the lore team at SE? was there a patch that redid the lore and I just wasnt around for it? (been gone for a while).

There was a thread about this already, and from what I remember, the "dragoons" of ishgard aren't really dragoons, but the only true dragoon is the azure dragoon(not counting WoL), as far as the azure dragoon, I can't say I remember what was said about them, only that it was possible he didn't really die.

The Ishgardian dragoons belong to a proper combat unit - in that unit, everyone is dragoon and everyone is trained in aerial and anti-dragon combat. So yes there has always been an army of them.

There however is only 1 azure dragoon, who is the best and is blessed by Nidhogg (of course the WoL made an exception).

So it makes sense lore-wise.

What doesn't make sense is how in the cinematics every dragon is decked in drachen mail and holding gae bolg - since presumably they are azure dragoon exclusive.

This could just be for flair. However, to really push for it, neither the drachen mail nor gae bolg is one of its kind in the lore of the game, so it can still make sense.

Like Shuon said, the dragoons are a combat unit for the defense of Ishgard against dragons, but there's one top dragoon that rarely occurs called the Azure Dragoon.

Dragoons are common enough. The Azure dragoon is special and before we came along unique. Estinien, the Black Dragoon you mention, never died in the quest. Infact when you end the quest the questgiver outright says Estinien fled rather than dying.

Midgardsormr's interaction with the WoL is tied to him/her being the Warrior of Light, not a Dragoon. Being a Dragoon is purely coincidental. We still know very little about the nature of the dragons origins.

From the Dragoon class quests I got that Drachen Armour isn't that rare and any dragoon will wear it as it strengthens their powers but the armour has to be uniquely made for each Dragoon for the Dragoon to bond to it. As for Gae Bolg, it is unique because it is the weapon of a legendary Dragoon. Its design however is likely not unique. They mention that the 'wings' on Gae Bolg are used by Dragoons to aid in controlling their direction of decent when in the air during the relic quest.

This is just an speculation but could it be that maybe the DRG AF2 it will the profer gear to difference the Azure dragoon from the common ones?

Yeah, the Drachen armor is specially ordered and crafted; similar to Paladin's armor. Its been a while, but I don't know if the DRG quest giver gave you his old armor or had one specially created for the player

Gae Bolg was unique to a legendary Azure Dragoon(forgot the name) The design of her spear (aerodymics, etc.) was so successful in killing dragons that it's design became the basis of all dragoon spears.

This is just an speculation but could it be that maybe the DRG AF2 it will the profer gear to difference the Azure dragoon from the common ones?

I don't think so. In the final battle with Estinian, the DRG soul crystal resonated you the player character you briefly was shown wearing the full set.

Truly, a momentous achievement. I can still scarce believe that you were able to summon the selfsame drachen mail worn by Haldrath! To think that it had been sealed within the soul crystal all this time...

I never said that the first azure dragoon didnt wear the AF, but there is a reason why there are AF2 on HW, my theory is that the DRG AF2 is what difference better an azure dragoon from a normal dragoon.
