Was there ever a reason for this? Its odd that hes so chatty in his FATE but dead silent here.

Well during the trial he is only facing 8 opponents so he doesn't need to communicate as much to get his point across.
Agreed, it's not like him to be so silent...
Also, I find it strange how the setting/arena works.
I mean, sure, it's Urth's Fount (which I assume is much deeper into the woods from the original Urth's Fount we visit in-game), but what's up with that Sacred Soil-like barrier surrounding it?
Is it a way to contain Odin? To make sure he doesn't run away, or something?
You sure it isn't HIM containing USAgreed, it's not like him to be so silent...

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.
Glamour is TRUE ENDGAME
You know...I always assumed O-App-Pesi & co. did something to make sure we'd be able to defeat Odin right there and then with no interruptions.
It never crossed my mind that it could be Odin instead who would want us dead SO MUCH as to prevent our escape.
He is overconfident since there is only 8 of us, so he didn't need to talk smack.
The last person to kill him was a lalafell and he is afraid to talk with his little squeaky voice.
The funniest thing about him is, that the arena is not bigger, but our characters are made smaller.
Just look at the size of the chest.
I think he's just become bored and antisocial from waiting around hours and hours, day after day, for people to show up and give some meaning to his existence, but other than that first week people hardly bother. I hear stories of groups of 8 adventurers banding together for the long journey there, and just as they arrive and are ready to get started, someone says 'WITHDRAW! Can't expect me to not craft risky things and take a chance at losing them while headed into this fight! And so the remaining 7 adventurers returned home, with enough time wasted already.
Those who have been observing Odin from afar notice him to be increasingly morose these days, and a few have made the prediction that if he continuous to dwell upon the futility of existance and his place in the neverending circle of death, soon we'll hear a loud Zantetsuken late one dismal night in South Shroud, but this time the only body laying on the ground would be his, having finally set himself free in the way only he could.
