    More housing options in 3.0?

Just curious, will there be more options for housing in future with the 3.0 expansion? And hopefully more affordable as well. since right now, the only way one can afford even a small one would be some big time crafter

    Unfortunately no.

Q23: In the expansion we will be going to Ishgard, but will you be implementing housing areas in Ishgard as well?

A23: The war between humans and dragons is still being fought in Ishgard and it’s not really a safe place to live, so we will not be implementing housing areas at the beginning of the expansion. While we may implement it at some point in the 3.0 series, we aren’t at the point where we can promise any kind of time frame.

EDIT: I'm sorry. I hope this will add more info for you. I just realized I foolishly only touched on Ishgard.

Q: Large size houses feel empty. Can you increase the cap on the amount of furnishings we can place?
A: We’ve been using all our energy to increase the amount of land, so we haven’t been able to touch this aspect of housing. However, with the new wards that were added, I feel that we’ve just about fulfilled the demands.

We’ll continue to add more land, but we’d like to improve the utility of each house.

However, the team that is in charge of housing, known as the Live Team, is also in charge of Free Company elements and the Gold Saucer, and they’re currently devoting all their energy to Free Company crafting and the Gold Saucer. We expect that they will be able to address this afterwards, but they will need a bit of time.\

As for gil. If I were you I would buy Battle/Field gear from the merchant in Northern Thanalan and SB with the other players there doing the FATEs. You can convert the gear for materia and use the Grand Company Seals you obtain to either buy Ventures or something else to help you obtain gil. The materia alone should help you out a lot.

Just because they don't have plans in the near future for Ishgard housing, doesn't mean they have no plans for add't housing in the current cities come expansion time.

As of now there has not been any announcement as to expanding housing with 3.0. They will be adding more wards for the existing housing districts at some point after 3.0, but there have been no revealed plans for anything like a housing district in Ishgard, although something like this may happen much later.

Also, you don't have to be a big ol' moneybags mega-crafter to be able to afford a house, just plan and save for it. I have done virtually no crafting and am by no means a "hardcore" player due to heavy time constraints yet I still was able to buy myself a small house in Mist and fully deck it out with cool stuff just simply by saving for it. There is very little that you have to spend money on post-50 and the couple thousand Gil you get here and there will start to add up. Combine that with sending your retainers on ventures and selling anything worthwhile they bring back and you will have enough before you realize. I think I managed to get together the money while playing casually and saving for maybe a month or so, so not really that difficult.
Work smart, not hard. Find what crystal shards are selling well and have your retainers bring those back or gather them yourself, or do the same for other mats that sell well like snurble tufts do/did. You can also soulbind equipment and convert them to high lvl materia. Some of that stuff can sell for 100's of thousands of Gil. There are many easy ways to make Gil in the game, but you'll never end up with much if you expect it to just fall into your lap (although it kind of could if you got really lucky with a retainer venture).

As far as I know, the most recent word on the subject (from around May 9th) is still a probably-not.

They have plans to add housing in Ishgard but in 1-2 years at earliest. There's not enough land right now so they plan to work on that first. If you're not sure about spending money on housing just buy a large one now.
So no definite date about more housing wards, but at least they acknowledge now that there's not enough.

I have mix feeling about them adding housing in Ishgard. Ishgard will probably be my favorite place to have a house, but on the other hand I already own a house in the Goblet and I do not want to deal with the fact that I will have to destroy my current house and move everything to a new house. Not to mention i spend ALOT of gil to buy and craft furniture (with some of them that gets destroyed upon removal). If they implemented some type of housing migration feature or something it would be alot better.

Personally I would prefer that they add housing in Coerthas earlier rather than later, and them add housing to Ishgard later.

Either way, they need far more land than they have already provided, the number of players wanting a home vs the number that have them is not a good ratio.

You don't have to be a crafter to afford a small one. It's not that hard to save up a couple mil.

Indeed, though on some servers, there are no small/medium plots left

Blame those who thought it was a good idea to buy up numerous plots, whereas it should have been limited to one house per account. Not one per character, account. Which would free up a lot of houses as I know of some who have 3-4 houses.

Yes I do have a house if any of those who bought numerous houses (and yes I could have bought more but I aint greedy) try to use that to sidestep this issue.

SE should reimburse those for the additional houses and only let them have 1.
