What should I be doing to prep for Heavensward?

i90 is the requirement for Steps so it's fairly safe to assume that's where the initial difficulty level in Heavensward will start. Anything above that is a bonus and will probably give you an easier ride with the early scenario content, but even if you farm up full BIS gear you'll probably replace it by 55.

I'd be much more concerned about getting classes to 50 and geared half decently first before wasting time going for BIS or Zeta relics.

Everyone has pretty much said it already. Finish main story!!! Nothing else is required. Whatever else you do will be optional and I would ask then what your goals going into HW are going to be. If you plan on getting to end-game raiding, then I would definitely suggest getting some experience in coil now. This will make you better as a player, but if raiding isn't your thing, then just ignore coil. DO NOT worry about getting your relic Zeta weapon. It will be a waste of time. If you enjoy crafting and gathering, I would suggest getting all those classes to 50 by doing leves, but one you get 50, stop there. No need to work on getting high level crafting/gathering gear and melding them. That's pretty much it.

14) fully cap 2k Poe if you dont intend on getting more armor or wepons from Poe having 2k will get you 500 law tomes when they drop out ( should be when alexander hm is out might be wrong)

I don't know anyone who's done with Poe on all their side classes already. o.o

I do assume you'll be able to trade Sol for Poe at cap, but I don't think they're quite done with Poe yet since they just added it. I just think the new Tomes won't be obtainable until 60 or something, kind of like how it's hard to get Sol/Poe now when you're still leveling to 50.

15) if you intend on playing the new class say astroligan for example you could farm some gear for them as they start at lvl 30 you only need to find armor from 30-49 so you can switch gear without having to teleport back to a AH

Oh, yes! I forgot this one. XD I had healer gear crafted for my AST so I completely forgot. Excellent point.

As a late comer (not really, technically) im just worrying about finishing the story first. That should be all you need to do to get a fresh start in Heavensward. Anything other than that isnt really necessary and up to what ever you want to do until release.

Im almost done with the story, and while ill gladly join a Coil, WoD, or EX team that I happen to get invited to before the expansion, im not really stressing it. Maybe ill just level a new class...

Not sure if mentioned, but one thing you might do, based on a thread the other day that someone showed a DRK using a poetic weapon during the benchmark, is save up 1300 poetics and get 10 rowena tokens of poetics, and then use 2 WoD weeklies to buy both the Encrypted tombstone and Carbontwine. Saving these things would allow you to get a i130 weapon for AST/DRK/MCH when they are released (based on that thread and pic, which seems to think poetic weapons for the new jobs will be made, which actually makes sense).
