Unable to target inanimate objects in class quests

I'm currently unable to progress in the following class quests due to being unable to target certain inanimate objects; rocks, archery butts, etc.

    1. Pugilist
    2. Archer
    3. Marauder

I get "invalid target" for all three and "target too far above you" and "Target too far away" for Archer (of all classes??).

I've selected all items for both weapon drawn and weapon sheathed in my filters and selected "auto lock on target" in the targeting tab.

Please help! I'd like to be able to continue progressing through these quest lines.

    Thank you

You may not be properly facing the target or it is obstructed view? (should say "unable to see" the target...we've seen it give the wrong message before). There is an option to automatically face a target... separate from the auto lock on. It specifically states to auto-face a target when executing an action.

And yes, you can be out of range even on Archer. You will see the icons on the cross bar change when you move in/out of range.

    Raist,

This happens when I'm standing directly in front of the objects in what would normally be considered normal attack range for the type of class. I literally can't get any closer to the objects and can see them all quite clearly. I would totally understand if I were out of range or were trying to hit something that's been obscured somehow, but that's just not the case and that's why I'm puzzled.

And I am saying we have seen this happen before because you weren't properly facing the target (as far as the server is concerned). In such cases toggling the option to automatically face targets when executing actions fixed that. you stated you set the option to auto lock on... it's not the same setting. You might even be locking on something else as well... setting the option to auto-face and NOT using the auto lock-on might help bring that to your attention also.

Did you at least try it? If so, then it is something else and you might need to open a formal ticket with SE through the bug reports section or at the official portal site.

Ah, I see. I didn't catch the difference between the two. Thanks for the advice, I'll try that and see how it goes.

No dice. Turns out I already had auto-face toggled.

Got "invalid target" as well when trying to use an active skill and not just auto attack.

Looks like you basically aren't standing in the right spot for the target. Look at your angles. Line yourself up better and you should be able to hit it properly. That's part of the exercise...lining up your target properly.

oh yeah.. and if I remember right... have to use Heavy Shot for them also.

Heavy shot did the trick for the Archer quest. Figured that out after a little frusterated button mashing. hahaha

Also turned out that left clicking to target instead of right clicking to target+auto attack worked for the Pugilist and Marauder quests.

    Thanks again!
