He isn't, he's explained as "Nidhogg's champion". Nidhogg likely being one of Middie's sons since Middie says one of his sons is calling for vengeance.(and said call is what compells the dragon host to attack)

I am 100% agree with this idea. There are many player still enjoying the game by seeing the progression and expecting too much effort. Main story quest has been, as a tradition, relatively easy compare to other contents in ffxiv. Also, SE will do anything to minimize the chance people to be frustrated before new expansion comes out too...

Nerfing old content is good (2-3 main patches old).
nerfing actual content before the next main patch is sad.
What people fail to realize is that SE has logs from JP NA and EU for every trial, duty, dungeon and raid and nerf content according to what the numbers say.
If they overture an instance and the numbers say it's over tuned it will be nerfed regardless of how long it's been out.
Thank you, this is all that needs to be said, close thread. What people fail to realize is that SE has logs from JP NA and EU for every trial, duty, dungeon and raid and nerf content according to what the numbers say.

Yeah but my request is not to do it for EVERY piece of endgame content. With the level cap increase, topped off with increased ilvl gear, which I feel will be pretty easy to obtain, that alone would relieve some of the difficulty of older content (depending on if they lvl sync it.)What people fail to realize is that SE has logs from JP NA and EU for every trial, duty, dungeon and raid and nerf content according to what the numbers say.

There's enough Zergie and Tank/spank content as it is. I really dislike the way they've taken well thought out, reasonably challenging content, and reduce them to what feels like a joke. (Turn 7 being the best example of this, as it gave players room to not pay attention to their voices and shrieks, which I feel just made a lot of players lazy)
At least Give players the option of taking on the original content (perhaps an option that only preformed parties can have). and if they wipe 2-3 times then present the "option" of doing it with reduced difficulty (at the expense of obtaining full rewards prior to completion of instance) I would love if SE did that versus permanently inflicting echo or minimizing fight mechanics once a nerf has been set in place..

Not to be "That Guy" but I said that It was an "interesting challenge" considering that it was story content, but that's not the endgame content I was referring too. I'm referring to content like Coil, Extremes, Alexander and the like.
The other posters used SoF for their reference...
btw you can understand something and still not agree with it![]()

I get what you are saying, but keep in mind you made a thread whose premise is, right or wrong, going to be assumed to be in response to the most current content adjustment SE has made..which is...
My point was many ppl i have seen are somehow equating how SoF has been handled(Aside: well over a decade of being subscribed to a SE MMO, i've seen a 'nerf' by them be truly overturned only a very small number of times. And then it is usually only a partial reversal. Look up the Ranged Attacks in relation to FFXI. So the SoF Adjustment, better get used to it as its gonna be around a bit) with how SE is going to handle endgame content going on. I just think ppl, not you per se, need to keep in mind what SoF is - story mission with no rewards that's purpose is to bridge the gap from the end of ARR to the beginning of Heavensward. That's it.
Of course all the back and forth is pretty much moot. There will be something else that will get one group or the other up in arms in a little while most likely.

As sad as it is to see they nerfed a decently difficult story fight, a large portion of the community asked for it. It's rather funny to see the opinion turn so quickly when it actually happens.
I haven't tried the new fight yet, but from what I see and hear, it should be enough to just get people up and through the story now. I agree nerfs to the story fights should happen after a time to allow everyone to be up to the same point in the game, MSQ wise. But nerfing the extra endgame content, coil, ex, etc, should be taken carefully and not to allow to much ease on the players. I feel they have been over all successful with this.
