ability to target through a tank?

Is there a setting or command that will let me target through a selected target so that I am not having to constantly change targets? For those that don't know what I mean, basically if as a lancer if I tank the tank I when I attack I attack the tanks target or if as a healer/buffer if I am targeting a mob and I cast a heal it would to toward the mobs current target. Perhaps this function isn't in the game and I am simple spoiled from eq2 mechanics but from the few dungeon runs I did it would be really usefull.

I don't understand, if it's regarding to target monster that Tank currently attack, I press F2(target Tank) then I press T(Target the person you're currently target).

Nuyu got the right answer. If you want to put it in a macro, you can use /assist. Otherwise, "T" is the assist key and with the default party sort order, F2 will target the tank. So "F2" then "T".

If you want to get fancy, you can use a macro to target the tank and then /assist.

I think /assist <2> might work but I can't test it right now.

You shouldn't be targetting through the tank, as most of the time they'll be cycling through targets to hold aggro, whereas DPS who aren't AOEing should be focussing fire on one target at a time. Plus, using macros for DPS abilities is bad anyway, as macros don't use the ability queuing system so you're introducing unnecessary lag into your rotation.

The only time you should consider using target-of-target abilities for damage is if you're playing a healer and you want to cast through the tank to help with DPS without losing your target for heals. Any other time, don't do it.

I use that method if no mark because the Tank is new or he just lazy...

It's useful as an initial starting point. As the tank does his opening move against a new group of mobs, do an /assist on the tank to target the first thing he/she targets. Then stay on that mob until it's dead. (Hopefully by then, the tank will have enough aggro on everything that you can safely take your pick of which add to kill next if no marked order has been specified.)
