Do I really care about the people that send me friend requests? Sometimes yes, but most of the time no. I believe FFXIV should look at their policy of friend requests and revise it. By that I mean players should have to ask if they can send a friend request before they send it to another player. I have noticed that players harass other players simply by sending a friend request when the recipient has indicated in their Search Info window that they are not receptive to friend requests. This principle can also be applied to the requests to join a Free Company (FC). I have received numerous requests to join a FC when I have expressly stated in my Search Info window that I did not want to join a FC. Again, I feel it's a form of harassment because other MMOs have a setting whereby you can automatically refuse to join a FC (guild in other games). Of course getting SE to change that to a setting to automatically refuse FC requests is impossible. As one post said above, SE doesn't care about their North American (NA) players. It's SE's way or the highway. SE has put together a fun game; but it certainly has things that I would change because they are detrimental to the playing experience.
But some people may want to wait until later.
Everything needs a 2-step confirmation because it's so easy to accidentally click just as the dialogue box pops up and confirm/deny something you didn't want to.
This game has friend request!?
I agree that their Friendlist/Blacklist policies are a bit whack. If you remove them from your friendslist you're still on theirs apparently so they don't get insulted you no longer consider them a friend. This is a particularly dangerous policy that enables stalking.I believe FFXIV should look at their policy of friend requests and revise it. Blacklisting somebody does not prevent them from being matched in a DF duty. If you're earned a place on my BL I do. not. want. to play with that person until I remove them from the BL. However it does prevent you from receiving whispers and invites from that character.
I agree that we should have much better control over who can send invites. At the very least a way to auto reject them without having to turn on Busy status which prevents everybody from sending whispers including friends.
There is a workaround for FC spam. Start the process for starting an FC. It does leave a notification in your list that you're gathering signatures but if that doesn't bother you you will no longer get FC invites. Another option is to find somebody with another account and have them make 3 alts to sign the FC charter.
