The storyline quests appear in sequence. Completing one unlocks the next, and it will be right in front of you. The only requirement besides completing the quest before it is that you be of sufficient level--and even then, you'll be able to *see* it, you just can't take it.

No, stat point adds are separate for each class, and one doesn't help out another. You *do* get to cross over some skills, and that can help a lot.

Each class gets its own attribute points to allocate. So you can always allocate them to the correct stat for the class - your allocation in one class doesn't cross over to others.

The only exception here is with Arcanist, because it has two jobs linked to it, but attribute points are allocated at class level - so you're forced to have the same stat allocation for both Summoner and Scholar. Every other class only has one job though, so the stats work fine.

Each class gets its own set of bonus stat points to allocate. So, for example, you could put all your Pugilist points into Strength and then if you decide to add Conjurer you could put all your Conjurer stat points in Mind. But just as each class gets its own set of points to allocate, each class gets only the benefit of its own points.

Jobs, on the other hand, don't get separate stat points. They use the points from the job's primary class. So, once you can unlock Monk, it will use your Pugilist stat points, since Monk is a specialized sort of Pugilist.

They *do* cross over into jobs, though...which is a pain for Arcanists, because Scholar and Summoner have different stat needs.

Main Story Quests all have this marker:

To progress through the story you must do ALL the Main Story quests. I don't think you can even unlock any dungeons except through main story line.

Optional Side Quests have this one:

These quests are optional, although for whatever reason, occasionally you will get one stuck in the middle of a main story chain *shrug*

For my personal opinion, the advantage as a dps is you can solo PVE, if you have chocobo it will be more fun.
You can do all side quest, fates and leve. I level my Bard like that and currently I'm lvling my Lancer, my exp mostly comes from leve and side quest.

There are dungeons unlocked by side quests (Sunken Temple of Qarn, Cutter's Cry, Halatali, etc) . All dungeons that the main storyline requires you to do are unlocked by the main storyline quest that requires you to do it, however.
