Why do so many people think WOW invented jumping and swimming? Or that it makes the game cartoony. Other ff games(FFX) had swimming and it was not meant to be cartoony.

Yes, but it made sense within the context of Spira/Zanarkand. Tidus and Wakka are Blitzball players, which is essentially water polo mixed with soccer. It makes sense that they'd have a high level of aquatic mobility and breathing due to their conditioning. Also if you'll notice, whenever you came to a pool of water in that game, you were automatically limited to Tidus/Rikku/Wakka, because it wouldn't make any sense for any of the other characters to have any sort of underwater ability.
Although it hardly made sense that Wakka's ball could move like that underwater, but that's a minor detail.

You are for underwater dungeons but against swimming? I have to say that a bunch of us walking at the bottom of the ocean is pretty bad ass. Swimming is for pussies

It is also unsightly when, in some mmos, you can swim while wearing a full body of plate mail. I think it would be very becoming of SE to add in some physics that correlate with what gear you are wearing also a snorkel or some oxygen tank or something.
Sometimes, realism in video games is not a good thing.

Since SE is trying to maintain a realistic sense of physics within Eorzea, it would be strange if you were able to swim normally while wearing 100 pounds of metal armor.
