    G9 chocobo question

How does it work as far as lethe water is concerned once you get to max rank? Can you simply not learn any new abilities?

I finally have my g9 chocobo where i want it, and am unsure of the consequences of let's say passing on a decent ability while leveling, trying for a certain one...then not getting it before rank 50?

Unfortunately, yes. You cannot learn (change to) any new abilities with lethe water once you get to 50.

i suppose you could still buy an ability and learn it at rank 50, but unfortunately they are very expensive and the best ones are not even available. However, i would simply not do any training on my final chocobo until it learns the right ability. This makes leveling more difficult though and you cant dominate in the lower racing classes.

You are unlikely not to find the ability you're looking for, but it can happen. I think it makes sense to select your desired tier 3 ability as hereditary and then try to learn Head Start on your g9 since it's able to be learned at any level (I've learned it at level 11 and level 50). With a perfect Chocobo, you still easily win through at least 200 rating without any feedings.

Not sure about that. A good inherited ability helps but the pedigree and stars wont let you win easier. Without training your average stats are equal to your rating, which means that everyone in the same class as you has probably better stats (cause they trained with at least G1 food)

I'm not talking out of my ass, I just did this with my second most recent Chocobo. You slaughter NPCs early on and only at about 200 rating do you start to actually lose sometimes. I had Cure 3 on that bird.

Yes, that is what I decided to do was carry over Cure 3 and play for Head Start. I held off feeding just in case, and even though I didnt land it until rank 19...I had no problem placing 1st until that point.
