We also can't forget that this is SE -- things said one day, can easily be changed the next due to whatever metrics they use and/or whatever marketing analysts tell them they need to do. We know Yoshi corrected a statement and said everything is locked behind 2.55, but he can just as easily change that and say that no, just the MSQ is locked and the jobs are attainable at 30. Much like NIN wasn't locked behind the Yugiri story, everything is changeable. So, we really won't know anything for sure until release or until he says something in another live letter ^^

It was also clarified that the new jobs are available at level 30. So completion of 2.55 to access the new jobs doesn't sound like a requirement any longer.

Aside from the fact that you need to complete the 2.55 MS quests to access Ishgard

Sounds like you're playing the wrong game OP.
Final Fantasy games have always been story driven. I don't see why that would change now.
The fact that this game is story driven is what separates it from other MMOs on the market. It's also what keeps me and others, subbed.
Personally, I think they did a great job of making the MSQ take the character through the world and to their first level 50. By and large the side quests can be ignored easily since they are optional content.
I don't see what the problem is.

Honestly I dont think this requirement will be very well received. The story does have its interesting parts but most of it is just complete fedex quests having you port all over Eorzea just to talk to someone about something or click on something before going back, only to go somewhere else. Ive been grinding out the story, with plenty of time, in order to be ready for expansion, and there were times ive wanted to gouge my eyes out.

Seriously, that whole moving to Revenants Toll quest 'chapter" was HORRIBLE!

I can just imagine how pissed off players will get when they have to do this knowing there is a whole new expansion zone that they cant get to because of some arbitrary b/s built into the game. Even worse for new players who'll have to grind out dailies over multiple days, already at level 50, just to inch their way to ilvl 90+ while they do the quest chain (which again, are like 95% boring fedex quests).

Just let people get to Ishgard and pick up from wherever the 3.0 story starts. If they miss anything they are free to go back and do it themselves. If they dont care then why would anyone else (particularly those who support this) give 3 flying flocks about whether or not someone else has? Put in an Ishgardian rep in each of the main cities to start a level 50 quest that leads into expansion areas. Simple. To each their own. Quite being such snobs about it, its none of your business how people want to play.

"You dont know about Iceheart or Shiva? Or the Uldah conspiracies? Or Domans? Hmpf! Nope. Sorry not sorry. GTFO!" ... seriously?

The new jobs are going to start at level 30. Rogue starts at level 1 but you had to complete the level 10 quest for your current class in order to play as it. As well since the three new jobs are in Ishgard, which you can only get into via completing the 2.55 story, you have to be level 50+ to start as them.

ILL agree some fine most fetch quests are annoying but I don't see the point in leting new players just blitzing to 50 and get Isgaurd Heavensward content with out even goingthrew the basics in the main 2.0 story maybe some of the quests should be tons down GUILDHEST REVRENTS TOLL STORY QUEST OMG SUNKEN TEMPLE.

But also cause I don't want RMTS RMTS RMTS BOTS BOTS OMFG BOTS in the new areas.

Considering that RMT bots are generally compromised/hacked accounts they will be there anyways..... They will simply hack accounts that already cleared 2.55.

I really don't understand why so many people think that RMT bots play by the games rules and legitimately level all the way up to earn gil....

So you're telling me that I shouldn't be playing a game that I greatly enjoy the aesthetics, combat mechanics, and boss encounter designs of (which are, by the way, the reason I play MMOs) because I don't enjoy its storyline? That's a really, really bad business model. Please point me in the direction of this game's exact clone which doesn't include the story.

That's like saying Ferrari shouldn't make cars that aren't red because "Ferrari's are red".

That's awesome that you can enjoy the story of the game. I personally can't. It's too verbose and generic for my tastes. Nobody is trying to stop you from enjoying your fun, why are you trying to stop ours?

I've played every Final Fantasy game in the main series, and multitudes of off-series titles. I won't need more than 2 fingers to count the number of times I've found their stories the slightest bit compelling. I enjoy numbers and mechanics. You enjoy the storyline and characters. That's fine, and it's wonderful that Square is talented enough to make one game that can appeal to people of different tastes.

I play games like DotA, Counter Strike, and Hearthstone. They have no story, but have interesting and depth-filled gameplay and are a good place for social interaction. This is the reason I play Final Fantasy XIV, not because of its story. I've played through the story, and I honestly couldn't even tell you why we're going to Ishgard, because I don't care. There's dragons that need punching, and I'm a dragon-puncher.

The only thing that square would need to do to fix the issue is upon Heavensward launch, simply include a warning box at the entrance to Ishgard for players who haven't finished the 2.55 MSQ solely stating that they will be skipping major plot elements if they proceed. That's all we're asking. It's exactly the same as playing a sequel before playing the previous game. (I played X-2 before X, did that make you cringe?)

I'll ask again, why does this offend you people who enjoy the story? Why can you not accept that other people have different preferences in their entertainment?

I must have read it wrong. I thought it was available not starting.
After grinding 2.0 to 2.55 I think they need to streamline it. Towards the end it quickly became monotonous and not much fun.
The majority of people that say it isn't a problem did the quest's as they were released not one chain after another in a few days or a weekend
