The players need to grow up and get better sooner or later, it makes perfect sense for the final instance before the expansion to be that time. SoF isn't hard, it's a mechanic driven battle that requires cooperation and a bit of coordination. If people can't make a conscious effort to TRY to do that, then they don't need to be playing a Massively MULTIPLAYER Online Role Playing Game.

Yes. There's a point at which players absolutely do have to start getting better.

    However.

Steps of Faith is, in about a month and change, going to become outdated content. It's a challenge that won't really get any easier from gear and levels. And the reality is that right now, when it's still 'relevant' content, people have little patience for the fight. And it's going to be mandatory in order to make it to Heavensward content.

Really, I do want to see more content that requires players to get better... but Steps of Faith is both an incomparable fight to other content mechanically (Getting good at Steps doesn't necessarily mean much for the rest of the game other than 'ability to follow instructions'), and left alone, it'll just become more and more of an irritation and roadblock.

Ah, the e-peen is strong in this one. Hardmodes are for guys who need constant stroking, other people don't even like dungeons and just want to get through it so they can enjoy some story and move on to the rest of the game.

And that would be why Square-Enix runs a multi-million dollar company and you don't.

Any dungeon that is explicitly tied to the advancement of the main storyline should have a less-intensive "story mode" ( with the appropriate reduction in gil/gear reward of course ).

I'm just tired of people asking for nerfs to content that isn't that hard. I've dabbled a bit in Coil, I've done some EX modes, the difficulty doesn't come near any of it. This at most is like the original AK before the nerfs, not that hard, people just need to know their jobs.

And I can understand that. That's why I think a "storymode" option, where there's no gear drops or anything, would benefit everyone. Those who hate dungeons and just want to get the story unlocked and move on can do so, and those who want/need the gear can still do the "regular" or harder modes as usual with all the gear/gil/titles/whatever benefits they normally get from said dungeon. No nerfing needed.

What I think many forget is this is a Final Fantasy game. Just like a Star Wars game ( SWtOR ), there are many people who want to play it simply for what Final Fantasy is primarily known for: story. They could care less about BIS gear or slogging through mandatory dungeons just to unlock the next bit of story. It's just like the singleplayer FF rpgs. You'll have people who will grind out the xp to get 9,999 stats, hunt down and kill an Omega Weapon, etc.; and then there are people who just aren't good enough or motivated enough for all that, they simply do the bare minimum to eek through and enjoy the story.

A storymode provides an opportunity to give both audiences with what they want and as a bonus retains those who may quit out of frustration/hopelessness after being locked out of the story because they're "not good enough".

Wait for the expansion. Even though Alexander will have a story mode, I bet you people will still complain hard mode should be nerfed. I'm calling it now. They'll say it's unfair that hard mode gets better gear. They'll complain that they don't have time to devote to finding a static. They'll whine about instant kill mechanics. Talk about how it isn't fun. ETC ETC ETC. All the same complaints we get now will still be present.

In every single MMO there is a segment of the population that is flat out jealous of players walking around in better gear, clearing harder content than they can. They see it as unfair. "I pay the same subscription fee... just because I have a life and they don't... blah blah blah... whine whine whine."

The difference between this MMO and others, is that SE sadly listens to these people. Ever since the original AK and Pharos were nerfed, the game has steadily gotten easier. No dungeons since those have been challenging. The EX primals have gotten easier. Final coil even before nerfs was easier than 2nd coil (which btw, no longer even exists in it's original form, because of nerfs). And no matter how many nerfs SE gives, they want more. Every patch that comes along is a sea of posts saying "I hope they nerf this... I hope they nerf that... I hope they make this easier..." and when somebody dares suggest that, I don't know, maybe don't nerf everything into the ground, they get downvoted or ignored. I've come to dread patches for this reason.

For some reason this community wants this game to be a MMO for babies. I'll never understand it.

Agree, story mode won't stop the whining.

I guess a lot of players play more for self gratification than actually playing the game. That part of the player base is more vocal as the part that tend to take challenge head on is probably less inclined to whine. (also a good part of the players that where here for challenges left when they saw the very few hard content FFXIV had)

It's a shame though, it's a personnal opinion, but I think it's more fun to find a way to crack a though fight and be rewarded with some unique story for your efforts than just have everythings spoon fed without any form of challenge. That's a game not a book.

about 90% of the game is casual, the only 10% that are still challenging will be nerfed because some people can't stand the thought that implication in the game should have a reward.

For SoF, I think the main problem is that you can't say "ok it's over, let's wipe it and retry"
The fact that you have to waste 15min for each try is what make people run away instead of trying to help others to get experience on the fight.
But SE can also nerf it, it'll be a bit anticlimatic for the story, but I get why people that can't play with others and are stuck here are starting to fear they'll miss the start of heavensward.

Well, I wish them good luck with that. There are plenty of mandatory FF bosses that will eat you for breakfast if you are not prepared. And usually the end dungeon is all but impossible unless you did most of the bonus content to buff yourself up.

Nah, buffing up for the final fight in past FF titles usually means being leveled up enough. Bonus or extra dungeons/content have things that no doubt help, but they aren't necessary to win.

Take my fav FF title, FF6-i know for a fact i skipped a ton of side quests and the like(heck i didn't even get Realm back first time through) and i didn't have any issue on the last boss after i was high enough level.
