FFXIV community on one giant bandwagon

The NA FFXIV community has 0 sense of creative or critical thinking when it comes to this game.

The Steps of Faith are a perfect example.

Current bandwagon mentality = IGNORE ALL THE ADDS.

Despite the fact that this strategy does not work with 99% (statistic fabricated to emphasis LARGE MAJORITY OF) of pick up groups, people continue to perpetuate this dumb strategy. The end result is going to be a nerf of a pitifully easy encounter to deal with all this derpiness.



The best way of clearing steps of faith with a duty finder group:
1. Focus DPS on Maracco add, adamantoise add, Svara add and Giruveganaus adds.
2. WHEN those adds die, focus Vishap.
3. Let cannons/aoe kill the rest of the adds.

BUT WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH DPS TO KILL VISHAP LET ALONE THE ADDS
99% of groups will GAIN DPS on Vishap by burning these adds down. In fact, with mediocre DPS, following this strategy, you can kill Vishap without even touching the dragonslayer cannons.

1. All four of these adds will probably kill at least one of your DPS if they're not killed before they start to swinge/stomp/mass poison/mass infirmity.

2. All four of these adds kill your NPC helpers if they aren't killed before they start to use these abilities.

3. All four of these adds require LOTS of healing by your healers, and lots of attention by your tanks. By dispatching them quickly, your healers will have MUCH more time to cleric stance and your tanks will have much more time to focus Vishap.




TL;DR: DON'T LET THE BIG ADDS SURVIVE FOR MORE THAN 25 SECONDS.

Done and out. Try it on your next duty finder group. You will probably win.

I've seen several methods for dealing with the adds, though the main and most prominent strategy used in DF is to have the tanks keep them under the boss while you destroy them with cannons. They typically die reasonably fast and except for the occasional hiccup with the turtle nothing major occurs with the adds.

The cannons are not fast enough to kill these adds before they start to use their abilities. The quicker you kill these adds, the more DPS you can pile on Vishap, through the NPC adds alone.

Never been an issue any time I've cleared it. Cannons do splash dmg, so holding the adds where they are typically held damages Vishap as well.

Beat it first day, df party, 2 tries. Maybe the first line of op's post should read something like.. the people I play with have 0 sense of creative or critical thinking when it comes to this game.

It took me 4 tries to beat it on my single hour dedicated to it. I count myself lucky in that because my brother got saddled with three failed groups before getting a superior one.

Edit: And mine was... 1 Tank with all the adds, 1.5 healers on him. .5 a healer on us DPS. One of us hitting the cannons, and one of us hitting a DK. On that 4th try, the third DK was almost unnecessary.

This isn't even hard a trial in my opinion. I don't see why people have such a hard time with it, you just kill the adds and burn down the big mean dragon, what are people doing to muck that up?

I was in a group, it was my first time along with some others, and all I did was shoot the adds with cannons. If you don't miss you can actually kill all the adds within each section. I was a tank and I stayed on the cannons till it blew up so I was able to get in some more hits.
