Delete inactive characters

Greeting fellow eorzeans and Square Enix,

my suggestion is that characters that remain inactive for a set period of time would be deleted, so the name could be freed for other players who actually want to use that name for an active character. I'm suggesting this because the name I wanted since I started playing this is being used on a level 1 character, which is clearly inactive. It's so frustrating that I, an active player, should not get the name I want because an inactive character is using it. Square Enix refuses to delete the character, saying that it's against their terms. So that's why I'm suggesting changing the terms, so that characters that are inactive for too long are deleted, similarly to what happens to Free Companies' Masters, who lose their leadership after a set period of inactivity. Everyone who agrees with me, please give your opinion, to see if Square Enix really gives it a thought.

Im guessing its a character name from something because I have never heard of this issue. Someone coincidentally choosing the same name I made up is unlikely.

On topic: I agree with jilly, I make characters for w/e reasons I have at the time and that person might play just as much as you, just not on that character.

How about? No. You don't delete a character. What you do is take away their name and when they decide to log back in they are forced to change it.

Happened to my character in City of Heroes and then SWTOR. You NEVER delete a character, that's hours of someone's time. And still when companies do this they give a heads up to old players before this happens. So that doesn't mean your beloved chosen name would be freed.

Seeing as how we have to use both a forename and surname, the likelihood that someone has the exact name you want is pretty slim (outide of names taken directly from say another game or sn anime or something).

Say I take a break from the game, long enough for all my characters to become "inactive". When i finally come back all of my characters would be gone and i'd have to start from square one. I'd quit the game entirely. It wouldnt be in SE's best interest to delete players' characters. They did it in FFXI for the first few years (for apace concerns iirc) but stopped.

Regardless of any sort of naming issues, deleting the characters is a line that would cause people who end up hit by it to quit the game. Sometimes people have to stop playing for a while, come back months sometimes years later. But if their character they put alot of work into is gone? Bye bye.

Also you are using one of the most popular names in fiction for your character right now. If you were going for a version of that name you shouldn't be surprised if its taken, and even if that level 1 didn't have the name someone else probably would have taken it by now. My name is from a game itself but I wouldn't exactly be asking for characters to get deleted in hopes of being able to use it.

Comparing an entire character being deleted, to just a character losing their FC leadership due to being inactive is a bit unfair. I've seen people in game rage because they had to use ' or '' after their name, or even something like 'Errza Scarlet' as their player name JUST so they could have something based off of a game/anime/popular name from the past/ect.

It honestly looks like you're kind of pissed that someone got the name before you could.
