is this a thing? Because it really, really sucks. This is a huge download. Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions (other than buy a pc).

Maybe the data got corrupted and it chose to delete it... That's odd, though. Never heard of it deleting a game on its own.
Well Sony said they fixed the data corrupt issue on the ps4 but they said the psn exploit was fix also and we know that was a lie
Are you comparing the DDoS attack to the security hack 2 years ago? If so they were completely different things. As for corruption..Sony probably fixed A corruption issue, but data corruption is inherent to computers of any kind. Disks fragment etc. Does seem though like maybe their system for removing corrupt files is a little sensitive. Honestly I don't understand why they'd put something in that autodeletes files like that. It should be user prompted.
Erm Sony PSN is bad the security is still poor thus why its still being targeted left and right. So yes I am comparing the 2 since the HDD in the Ps4 is poorAre you comparing the DDoS attack to the security hack 2 years ago? If so they were completely different things. Security has little to do with handling a DDoS attack. Maybe you should look up what a DDoS attack is. It also wasn't just Sony, if you were following the LizardSquad twitter feed they also targeted Microsoft Xbox Live, Battle.net, Twitch.tv, and several other web services. All were successful DDoS attacked even your supposedly well secured Xbox Live servers.
i had it happen Twice it is because the application data may of had a slight corruption ad the PS4Os deletes any corruption unless it is a image or music file

It's happened to me again! I'm so frustrated, I have a fast internet connection and nothing else using it, why is it being "corrupted" on download? I feel like im being ripped off after dropping £350 on this console. I just want to play FF14 when I want without having to spend 1-2 hours downloading and patching every few days.
Edit: Even more irritating that its only happening to a tiny percentage of people, is my console defective or something? I wonder if this will keep happening...

it's not a defect its just a very unlucky bug with each stability patch that comes out for the ps4 they fix a lot of this, but if the games change or if you suddenly turn off your ps4 while in a game it causes a small data loop the console dosnt recognise and as part of its operating system to save the rest of your things from being corrupted it purges the game however saying that if you experience it 5 times in one month contact sony, if they say it is a default in your system they will replace the whole thing for you

I have to say wii U menu load times are terrible and xbone ui is even more of a mess than it was before (yes apparently it CAN get worse!) but out of all three Sony's system is definitely the most unreliable.
In my 30 years of gaming I haven't had a console crash on me this many times yet.
On the plus side XIV really has zero lag on ps4 compared to ps3 version.
Maybe you should write a letter to sony customer service if your warranty is still valid?
