By messed up I mean too many items and no ones buying because all the major crafters are starting to gather their own stuff..
Short and sweet explanation: People are expecting their time and gil leveling gather/crafting classes to be compensated greatly in the future, so they are willing to spend time and gil now to level these classes. Gatherers lose gil by leveling a class that is of little use to the markets and they recieve less profit for their time. Crafters lose by spending large amounts of gil on materials and either vendoring or selling at a reduced price. Either way profit is significantly lower than it should be for everyone.

Only thing that will fix this is increasing demand for crafted items, and lo and behold the materia system, specifically designed to accomplish this task. So, 1.19 should change things up a bit.
