How much money would SE make...

if they re-released ffxi with ffxiv graphics, and had to start by making new expansions instead of the old ones for new content?

The battle system and UI from FFXI were beautiful because they worked so well together. FFXI's UI allowed the screen to be especially uncluttered, letting you experience your battles to the fullest. FFXIV's UI has shit all over the place, and no matter how I try to move it around, it's always in my way. However, it is possible that this is by design so that the UI may distract us from how utterly inferior the FFXIV battle system is. Anyways, back to the original question.

If SE had to start FFXI all over with new graphics and new end-game content/expansions, but same everything else, would you buy it?

    I would.

(Also, Abbysea and the level cap raise to 99 killed FFXI for me) T_T

Being that FFXI was never more than a nitch product, I dont know if thats a great idea. I enjoyed the hell out of FFXI but not everyone did. Did FFXI ever even break 750k subscribers at its peek?

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

FFXI had a great UI, I don't know what you are talking about Neptune. The UI was simple, yet elegant (mostly thanks to the controls as well. ex: cntl+w = list of weapon skills). The UI, battle, and controls system worked very smoothly together to create an aesthetically pleasing game.

As for Tony's comment, FFXIV isn't even going to tread water against WoW. Deal with it. 750k subscribers is a hell of a lot more than FFXIV is ever going to get unless this game gets a MAJOR overhaul and not all of these little tiny changes made each patch.

They would probably loose money, I doubt the amount of money it would take to develop such a product would make them anymore of a substantial amount of money that XI already makes. Then you have to take into consideration that probably a lot of people that currently play XI would move to the new XI but leave those behind that wouldn't be able to run it since they havent updated their PC since they were able to get it to run XI. This would probably make those that could not move to the new product quit the original XI since the new XI pulled most of the population away hence SE loosing more money.

FF XI was never very successful.... the player base is quite low and the game does have better graphics then other more succesful mmo out there... so Square wouldn't make any money.

Let me just say one simple thing that Square Enix used for Final Fantasy 1-10. Turn.......Based......Action! How could this simple concept keep Final Fantasy fans tuned into the game? Because it was a simple, yet elegant way to play the game. Now I'm not going to jump on FFXIII's back and ride it in the mud, I love the fact they're trying new avenue's now. All I'm saying is that FFXI's UI was a smooth transition to enjoy the game while not fussing over the mechanics to make me resort to pulling hairs. I believe we should upgrade the system, not demolish it entirely and start from scratch.

All I'm saying is, if it's not broke, why try and fix it?

Why do people believe releasing an upgraded FFXI would be successful? It would fall on its face and would have received similar or worst criticism than XIV... The battle system is way too slow for any modern MMO. The strict party play wouldn't pull in anybody new. Basically it would transfer people thats on XI now over to XIV SO a brand new game will feel like a 10 year old game... SE knows it has to evolve it games(which brings the hate with certain new ones) but their problem is they haven't found the right way to go by it yet. The old Dev team just was blind as hell I assume(but had some good ideas like the armory system). The good thing about a MMO is they can turn it around based on solid feedback and with the hands of a talented team.

No, it's an old game with old systems. I don't go on FFXI forums trolling them about how FFXIV is/will be so much better, leave it alone.
