For me the two most wrongly done jobs are summoner and bard. Summoner, as many said before, is not really a summoner here, it's a dotter with a minion. Yes it can be a strong dps and w/e you like, but still not a poper summoner. Its damage should be based on its summons, not on dots.
A bard's strong thing are the songs, and here you get penalized when singing, first your damage gets cut down with either mp or tp song, and your mp get sucked dry. So what makes me want to sing? Also as someone commented before, an archer stays away from the monsters, but a bard has to stay in range of the party or the foe, or songs won't hit. And don't get me started with the healing LB...
Also, since we're here, are we really getting a second job for each class or was arcanist just the exception?
The thing with support jibs is would people even play them?
sure people say they would but would they really archer going bard makes good sense to me really you get a dps with support buffs but they do need more.
I did the archers story in 1.0 but not here yet isn't it stated in it that they are a supporting role?
Maybe just give them more support ability's and it would be better.
Also get rid of the mp drain on their songs make them last for 1 2 5 minutes top put a cd on them nerf the regain a bit remove the damage reduction penalty then we got a good bard who can't complain about they don't want to sing every ones happy.
And for those arguing they want 2 songs up at once get real that's impossible. Even Sinatra couldn't do that.
Overall as a part of a combat design it's not a big deal. I wasn't talking about FFXI.
It does deal with the issue of ranged vs melee options for hunters, though. It was the price paid for the removal of the deadzone. I was more miffed at the fact that my female gnome warrior who was an engineer couldn't use guns anymore.2) Ah...that was one of the reasons i left WoW for good...for the record, WoW is what happens when a company actually tries to make a game into its own sequel.
Anyway, there is potential for a physical ranged class that can stand toe to toe with the likes of BLM and SMN without being OP. It just needs to have a balanced design that will include some abilities with cast times and some sort of resource limitations. It's real easy to implement this with the TP system currently in the game as is.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
brds arent going to be BRDs 100% ever , support classes wont exist in FFXIV if the meta doesnt change ,they made a mistake in 1.0 adding brd instead of RNG
smn , is a dot class with an animate dot as pet.
nin , mudra system looked good on paper , high ping and lag spikes kill all the fun , too much kicking and spinning around @.@ , why nin arent puking everywhere? , more slashing attack please , blade : Shun? blade : Jin? , blade : HI ?
some classes are complex just because , others are more streamlined , and others ....well.... PLD is boring.
If I remember correctly, all that strategist flavour is in the japanese names. For example Sacred Soil is called defensive formation or so where you as a Scholar basically tell the others to take defensive stance in the designated area. I can't remember the names exactly, but it was something like that. There should be a thread buried somewhere in the lore forums about scholarly things which had few posts about this.
Yoshi-P is doing his best and is patching Endwalker. Please wait warmly until it is ready.
I just wish ranged DPS was more dynamic. I cant even force myself to lvl archer because i literally fell asleep playing it.
You could always give it another "shot" (pun intended).
Most classes don't feel that fun at first, but once they start getting a few essential skills, they become a lot better (case in point: Black Mage at Lv.40 or so).
Not quite a thread from these forums, but close enough:If I remember correctly, all that strategist flavour is in the japanese names. Yeah, the naming conventions for SCH's skills in japanese are vastly different, as well as being more "appropriate" (if a bit wordy, considering the language) given its role as a strategist.
Still, I can understand why they made these changes (much simpler for players).
