    Free Trial and Steam

    Hey
I'm playing on the free trial and I'm about to buy the game.
I want to know if I can buy the game on Steam and link up my free trial account to my Steam account, and if so, how? I also want to buy 90 days of subscription with a recruit a friend code, so it helps if that's possible too.
    Thanks

I don't know 100% how it works and I don't want to be wrong.

Careful with steam. I am on it, a lot of cons to it. We haven't been able to pre-order heavensward yet for one....

From what I've heard (not personal experience, as I'm on PS4), Steam basically locks you in or locks you out. If you have a Steam Free Trial, then the *only* way you can purchase the PC game or the expansion is through Steam (or by abandoning your Free Trial account and starting over when you buy it), whereas if you have a non-Steam PC Free Trial version, you *cannot* use Steam to upgrade to full service, or to get the expansion.

Personally, I'd far rather be locked out of one particular retailer than locked into only being able to make purchases from one particular retailer, so I wouldn't recommend using Steam in a case like this.

(This limitation is only in regards to PC versions. You can combine either the Steam PC version or the non-Steam PC version with PS3 and/or PS4. You just can't combine Steam with non-Steam on the PC.)

Personally I never would have gone through steam if I had known it was going to lock me into only steam

Same boat as you. OP, just buy from SE's website direct, you will thank yourself later.

Keep in mind 20 May seem like you have put a lot of work in....in the long run it is not anything you can't do over pretty quickly.

Well I ended up buying from steam because I didn't know how long an answer would take, and they gave me a non-NA CD key, which I'm now having to battle with support to get changed to an NA CD key.

I should also mention the free trial I'm playing is not on Steam, and as I've seen been done before, you can buy the game on Steam then get the right click the game in your library to view the CD key.

Fun stuff, thanks Valve and SE.

If your playing a non steam free trial and bought the steam version you are going to have to start over. To the best of my knowledge it's one or the other the 2 versions don't work together.
