The expansion content all being locked behind the main story is gonna be the biggest scandal this game had since it was so shitty they took it down to redesign it.

I have to agree. Us forum goers know about this, but what about the general public? The people who haven't kept up with FF14 for months or longer?

It's been mentioned in the 2.55 patch notes, and will be mentioned again in the 3.0 patch notes, and the 3.1 patch notes.
The problem isn't people not keeping up with the community, the problem is people not reading the patch notes that are advertised with big pretty pictures on the launcher.
The patcher is something you get AFTER you buy the game. I'm tellin' you guys, people are gonna be real mad to find out they have to get to 50 and gear and do several instances before they get to tool around with the new stuff they added, including popular classes. It's been mentioned in the 2.55 patch notes, and will be mentioned again in the 3.0 patch notes, and the 3.1 patch notes.

Leveling to 50 to do level 50+ content isn't that outrageous and the 100-ish quests for the Astral story-line aren't that lengthy at all. Not counting the few dungeons and trials, the regular old quests wouldn't even add up to a day.

Umm but why?
It has already been mentioned several times and from different sources (se included) that you will need a level 50 class and have the 2.0x storyline complete to get access to the content of the expansion.
If the player does not read up on it or has avoiding doing the main storyline only they are to blame...

Not really. The HW content locked behind the base-game's easily played through MS isn't going to cause a scandal.
