You seem to take this as a given, but a lot of people disagree. As far as I can tell the only abuse is that people who were rude already would start being rude with numbers. I can see how parsers might exacerbate pre-existing douchebaggery, but it's not gonna create new problems. It's not like we have to get abstract or hypothetical either; parsers are far from unknown territory. Plenty of other games have them and they work fine (and don't tear the community apart).

Do you have anything besides anecdotes to support their abuse potential?

see with this idea i don't mind it but i understand those who don't want to see it i went and joined a PF for a t10 farm and i was kicked, why? i was told my DPS was to low, now if i left it that i would be called a delicate little flower, but now if i tell you that during that fight i was the charge target nearly every single time, suddenly my low dps makes sense to those with common sense because charge = stun = lost GL3 = perfect balance every 5 mins = getting charged again. being told my dps was low was there only focus when we were pushing phases easily.

now, everyone knows if they could see there number they might and might not, those who think they are the bee's knees and carrying a group may not be as high as they think, while others may take that as a hint to practice and try to do better, or they may be happy with there gear = numbers.

but this is where we come to a issue, if you start issuing everyone numbers then people see themselves above anyone who are slightly lower, we will see PF say ONLY 750 DPS ONLY, what dose this number truly mean. on reddit someone got over 1000 DPS as a black mage in a titan hard mode with 50% echo so already that number becomes useless, training dummies do not have the same defence value's of t13 so thats useless, t13 itself has higher defence but unless you clear it with out echo and your not selected for any and all mechanic which would make it useless the chances of anyone caring for your number becomes insanely low.

TL: DR i think it would be a ok idea, but i do not truly care, others will react ever extremely poorly or extremely happily to this, but the way's to test your numbers are extremely limited as the numbers it gained can be influenced though many anomalies that then invalidate the numbers ultimately making the number system worthless.

Can I perfect this more? Where can I get that extra hit in? That for me is actually pretty fun. It's like a mini-game. The parser is just a tool to be used, if someone is going to be a jerk about it they would've been a jerk about anything. We shouldn't disregard an important and informative tool just because a few idiots who probably have no clue how to use it properly start spouting nonsense.
This is cool and all. I'm glad you take your DPS seriously but honestly not everyone plays like this. I don't play like this. I only care to go in kill and gtfo. It really isn't needed for this kind of game. The community is already divided and a Parser just makes it worse. Not everyone plays this game hardcore. SE should just keep it how it is. I don't want to fully disconnect with the rest of the community like I have already with DF/PF on Raids.

I assume you know this from your vast pre-echo non-iLvl-capped coil experiences, right?

Take my DPS 'Seriously'?. I just enjoy a different aspect of the game than you do. I like end game raiding and competing with others. It's a game, I do what's fun. Not what's serious.
Why do you have to be hardcore? My static went twice a week with some other nights thrown in the mix if we were all online and we got FCOB down. Hardly hardcore raiding.
I also join in plenty of kill groups just for the hell of it, help out in other PF groups and I don't hold myself above any of the community.
I personally don't believe a parser would do that, as I have said before, it's just a tool. If the person who uses that tool is a complete jerk then so be it, but he would've been that guy screaming at you anyway for anything he could see. Parsers have absolutely NO place outside of end game raiding, so anyone shouting at others in things like experts/WoD is just being a moron, but in end game how you perform your class actually does matter, to say otherwise is just plain wrong and the fact that only 15% or so of the playerbase have cleared FCOB prove that.

Forgive me if I took this the wrong way, but it sounds to me like you're stating if you're into the whole DPS parsers and end game then you must be some sort of hardcore no lifer who treats the game like a job and not for fun and that's just ridiculous. I just get my fun from doing hard raids and working with a group of people and trying to max out my class, rather than chocobo racing and WoD.

I want a parser so when there are times when dps is doing a lot lower than what they are able to, everyone can see just how low they are actually doing. Then they either have to step it up or else it will continue to be problematic in trying to clear whatever content.

When I tanked sastasha hm for my zodiac item, I had a party with a drg with his nexus and had poetic gear, a bard with ilvl100-120 gear and my War at the time was around 113. After initial trash pull I could see dps was low and I knew there were going to be problems with the 2nd boss. Both the drg and brd were doing less than I was as tank. We wiped on the 2nd boss twice when the last set of adds came. The Drg kept saying to us that we need to do more damage on the boss when he shoots which is funny cause his dps didn't improve at all... 3rd time was the same so I did everything I could to damage the boss enough where he leaves and then solo all the adds myself coming close to death.

New wave? Ever wonder why you wait for tanks / healers or why there is a reward for tanking coil/primals? It's because of the abuse that gets thrown at you for the increased visibility of your mistakes. This is why parsers matter.

When you outgear the fight by up to 40 ilvls and struggle with it killing it or meeting DPS checks, the party deserves to know which poetics princess is holding them back. Pony farming is miserable enough as it is and T9-13 having timed add phases that pad the fight's time length make farming those tiring even with a good group. When the tanks (or healers) are outparsing you, the party has a right to know.

Eh, the reason it's implemented in PVP is because it's a one and done event, so gauging ones abilities is easier than say in coil or other events where a wipe can occur.

You would have to tell the game to "reset" the accumulated points each time a wipe occurs and to only count a win, but asking the devs to implement a system like that isn't as easy as the way it's implemented in pvp, because if with death in pvp there is no such thing as a "wipe" because the event is a straight run to completion, there is no "wipe" and start over concept to those content.

Funny enough the main people I see complaining about tanks and healers...are healers and tanks respectively. Not saying dps don't complain, but they're hardly the sole suspects.

On another note, "poetics princess," I gotta use that someday. That's gold.

I see a comment like this and before even going to your lodestone I can tell you're rocking full poetics gear and don't raid until you over-gear the content by 20 ilvls and echo is introduced.

This isn't about "I". Try gain a little perspective.
