It kept me from joining it.
Part of that reason was because of features like that which eventually crept up into a nightmare of customized ui, addons, and reputation as a community.

I don't want that, I didn't start playing this game to go through another game's experience.

That's great. It kept a handful of people, out of the millions still playing it, away due to damage meters. If numbers scare you that much, I suggest you don't go further down the MMO tunnel.

It's not a hard concept. You numbers are low, make them higher. You're doing something wrong if they are completely different from someone of your gear/level. Why should I take someone that wants to do less work than someone else who clearly (As shown by the helpful parser information) does more and helps the group as a whole? Just like taking a guy to help you move, yet all he does is sit there and point out where everything goes instead of doing anything.

I'm sorry you think its not enough that I look for improvement and am willing to correct myself for content already. I am just not interested in berating people out of parties unless I am certain they have ignored given instructions. I do not want to see this game as a 2nd job, and do not appreciate features that encourage it.

Take it another way, if I enjoyed critiquing the hell out of people in my party and regularly vote abandon, and just acted on performance, would I be a better player? Not necessarily. I certainly wouldn't feel better about the behavior and would spend a considerably longer amount of time waiting for parties to fill, thanks to my DPS role.

Why would i give advice though if I was acting like that? I'm not obligated to them, if its a df i probably won't see them again. they are the ones keeping us from success, they have all the same tools, they should know what it is already or not be here.

You haven't heard? The exact same instant you put effort into a game, it becomes your job. You're teleported immediately to your mother's basement, and are made to sign the "Ermagerd We're Da B3st" guild charter, which requires - among other things - that you actively try to reduce the number of new players by making them feel infinitely inferior to yourself (don't worry, they deserve it, you're that much better). You are required at all times to use your <Final Witness> title, but make sure to never actually play your role. You're always more helpful standing afk in the back. This allows you a good view from which to criticize everyone else (If they get sassy tell em to look at your gear, that'll shut em up).

At least that's what I've learned from the forums. Maybe in reality people are just human and prone to emotionally-influenced responses that could vary depending on context. Who knows

I think this is where we differ. I tank for my static, monk is my offspec and I have a lot of fun in PF groups for FCOB on it, more so than my tank. Mainly because I use the parser and try to beat my previous best DPS in those turns. I'll try to improve every single time, where can I get my rotation off better, whats causing me to lose some DPS? Can I perfect this more? Where can I get that extra hit in? That for me is actually pretty fun. It's like a mini-game. The parser is just a tool to be used, if someone is going to be a jerk about it they would've been a jerk about anything. We shouldn't disregard an important and informative tool just because a few idiots who probably have no clue how to use it properly start spouting nonsense.

Why does everything have to be so negative? Why do you look on the downside? There are plenty of positives that come from a parser and personally I think it would increase the average skill level in the game by far as people would have some sort of clue as to what they are pulling numbers wise.
Of course some people are going to use it to point the finger at others but they already do that. At least with a parser you can actually see if they are lying, or if they are actually right and you are pulling low DPS, even if they are going the wrong way about telling you and you can then go improve. Or if you don't care for end game raids don't go and improve and stick with the content where your DPS doesnt really matter.

Because general argument against parsers is that those who are performing under the minimum standard needed for content may get upset by being able to see that they are performing lower than they think they are.

I'm not advocating a scoreboard or a party wide parser, just a personal parser so you can see yourself, and no-one else, how you are performing. Which will give players a solid reference of what they should/could be attaining to, to be able to clear content they are stuck on.

This I have no problem with. I don't think anyone here has a problem with this. But it's not what's being asked for. What is being asked for is some kind of party tally of everyone involved 'for improvement's sake'. As has also been pointed out, the potential for abuse from such a tally is too much to be permissible. We already alienate people enough with such excuses as low HP, low iL and even number of times killed in a run. We don't need to add to that with a parser.
