I like this compromise. I always thought that DPS meters should be used for personal improvement only, because comparing e-peen just sets people up for drama.Simple solution to any "drama" issue; Have it display at the end of a successful dungeon/trail/raid and make it an option in the Character Configuration. If you select to see your numbers, it lists your numbers at the end. If you don't, it doesn't and nobody can see your numbers. Problem solved. Heck, just make the whole thing a personal venture by only having it show your personal numbers and let us share numbers if we want.
Can't believe so many people missed this, myself included. On the first page, no less. This is, by and far, the most perfect answer that anyone could come up with. I said to myself I'd keep out of this thread after seeing certain replies practically scream 'can't hear you, lalala!', but after seeing the above post I had to find this post. The only reason I can see this as getting any flak is from those who want to see other players' results instead of their own.
It's not about SE's capabilities why this is not implemented. A DPS meter will cause too much drama.
we already have drama w/o it, so the drama issue is some what irrelevant. I personally would like a system the OP mention so I can check my DPS on PS4, which I can use to improve my rotation, harass other ppl or defense myself again an accuse for do low dmg.

because then u will have ppl raging that brd dont use song because they parse lower
that melee ignore mechanics in order to keep Dpsing
that blm/smn aren using aoe when they need to focus target to pad metters
or hell that pld/war ignore tanking in order to keep dpsing to feel like a wannabeDD
Meters even at the end of the instance can cause havoc , we have seen it before
BLM and SMNs would never chose single target over aoe because aoe rotations do more dps though, and good palladins/warriors spend as much time optimizing dps as safely possible. To top that all off you're also supposed to learn to what extent you can disrespect mechanics as monks, black mages, etc. in order to output optimal dps.because then u will have ppl raging that brd dont use song because they parse lower
that melee ignore mechanics in order to keep Dpsing

Hahahahahahahahahahahahah ah... hahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaaha
I can still burn them down faster single target on more occasion than not.
AoE rotations do *not* give you fire III procs. Why should a blm be forced to settle for up to 6-800 damage (or less) when I can crit for 2800+ from an instant spell while running to get to a new position. There are times with critting that I've done around 5k damage in less than a second because of the fire III proc and my BLM isn't even i120 yet.
If you think you are going to DPS higher with AoE vs proc... I would have to disagree with you (most of the time). Sometimes I get pretty lucky and get fire 3 procs 4 or 5 times in a row (ie fire - fire III proc - fire - fire III proc - fire - fire III proc, etc.) which can add up to a lot of damage in short order since it is an instant spell, and which I will say again, I can crit over 2800+ damage.
I will, though, still also use double/triple flares while using my preferred single target damage ;P

You need to look at AoE as potency per target. Fire 2 has a potency of 100 while Fire 1 is 170 and Fire 3 is 240. Firestarter is a 40% proc rate. Additionally, Fire 2 takes 0.5s longer to cast than Fire 1. Now, you can easily crunch these numbers to see how many enemies need to be in AoE range before Fire 2 overtakes Fire 1 with Firestarter procs as a DPS gain.
(the answer is 3)
Dps meters are weapons and who does not know how to use them, better don't use them.
I'd rather like to see some kind of a personal ranking after a wipe or a clear that no one else could see. Something simple like Excellent, Good, Pass, Close & Fail or just A, B, C, D & E if the words are too harsh. The same system could be used to show everyone the group's overall ranking so they know if they can actually defeat the encounter. As a tank I've done quite a few Odin trials and its really sad to see that many people cannot even pull more damage than a tanking tank, and on a fight like Odin most duty finder attempts end with a vote abandon because people simply cannot do enough DPS. Something needs to be done to encourage DPS players to want to perform better, and telling them when they are not playing properly would be a good start.
