Many threads on this Official Forum are merely time wasters or the aborted mental refuse of a overly bored playerbase. SE is taking a LONG time to make changes, but they ARE making changes. I can't count how many times I've thought "why doesn't SE just fix this" then after doing some digging in Reinhart's Japanese to English Tranlastion thread find the exact topic I was Q_Qing about asnwered by a Dev and in a usually very pleasing manner.

SE will get there. In the meantime, let's all go take some MMO Design Classes so we can be better at knowledgeably attacking them with our smartassery instead of our stupidity and false sense of MMO Design knowledge and concepts.

Repair system is there because Alchemists and Culinarians will eventually have consumables which will be their source of income.

What will other crafters have as a form of income in a saturated economy?

this is a great point. in FFXI crafting all became useless after the 5th or so year. Repairs will ensure crafters always have a source of income or use.

New armour/weapons from new content? Armour/Weapons in general because people will eventually need.

that assumes they consistently release new stuff. FFXI didn't, and when it did most was rare/ex from raids. For example i had the best bst gear aside from relic for about 4 years prior to abyssea. And in that time almost nothing better was released.

If they do consistently release new stuff then it has to be just -a bit- better than the old stuff. And even then each time its released it outdates the old stuff and makes it essentially worthless.

So it really depends on how they go about handling gear. And i have a feeling due to the messed up economic problems they will rare/ex most gear (as you've seen in all end game stuff under yoshi-p)

Yeah and the only people ranking up this repair class would be botters. No legitimate player is going to devote the time and gil to rank up a class that doesn't make money. Your repairs already aren't worth doing for me and I can repair anything from GLD/BSM/ARM/CRP and most TAN gear. Perhaps if people offered decent repair rewards then people like me would start checking your bazaars and doing your repairs. I only do a repair now if I see it in /shout with the reward listed.

    Repairs are pretty easy...

(Repair) (Grade X Dark Matter) - LW BSM ARM WVR - (Can you do it?) @ (Repair) NPC

    -OR-

    (Repair) - <insert craft name> - @ (Repair) NPC (please assist)

/away make a sandwich, leave your game running for the night, take a shower, or wait 5-10 minutes

Come back and everything is magically repaired!

I either offer GIL or the Dark Matter required for the repair as a reward, and people are happy to do repairs because its 10x faster than actually synthing anything and you get a decent amount of SP. Heck, I'd repair all day if there was enough demand, it would be a faster more guaranteed (no fails) way of leveling my craft

Just toss up your item with whatever grade material is required to fix it as a reward, then stand by the repair NPC. Literally every single time I do this, all my items are repaired within minutes.

I do not have a problem with the way the system is now. It gives me more incentive to rank up my crafting jobs.

i dont like this idea, however i do like the idea of repair kits for field use. make them cost 6 k so they are a little more pricey then dark matter5. it would also keep crafters from charging over1500profit for a repair.
also make them only go 75% like the npc
