Precisely why we should be able to turn the mini map on/off. It's superfluous; convenient, but unnecessary.
Saying that Blizzard didn't impliment the option to turn their mini-map off until Wotlk, only way to do it prior to that was add-ons.
And FFXIV doesn't allow add-ons.
