I'm talking about the airship, if there is some sort of premium cost associated with the fast transport I really don't have an issue with it. If it's gil I think 10k for a quick trip sounds about right, good gil sink as well. In FFXI you never got to move around for free, teleports were rather costly for the most part.

Getting a teleport from Jueno usually ran you 5-10k depending on server and inflation, Imperial silver peices ran about the same price and cost you Imperial standing if you weren't buying them, teleporting in WoTG cost you campaign points "the most leniant of quick warps" but the nature of the content in WoTG demanded access to quick warps around the world and still to get anywhere else "Content was actually spread away from stuff in XI" you still had to jog through a good deal of stuff that would munch off your face.

So yeah XI had it right, even with more ways to teleport you always had a cost associated with it. Anima is associated with your time and has a fairly balanced cost I think.

Airships? We got no damn clue.

And I agree with this though no one has been discussing it needs to be free or not. It should cost more for the better means of travel. Its a great gil sink as you said. however the biggest thing about traveling on foot between the 2 games. is the huge server lag in XIV and the lack of sneak/invisible I can't tell you how many times I've heard people cry and log off because they were running somewhere and some random invisible level 90 mob or NM killed them. and have to teleport all the way back and do it again. until one of those issues get fixed. I'm kinda for having things close to the Camps.
