That is how the players who enjoy traveling fast would feel if Square were to remove the option to travel fast from FFXIV and only give them the option to travel slow.
"When SE created abysea in FF11 they said "o hey guys abysea wont ruin anything because people can still choose to experience the old content". well guess what it did ruin FF11, by creating content that is so drastically different and "easy access" that makes old content obsolete, you pigonhole people into having to use the new content. In reality by introducing all of this new instant gratification content all old content and immersion is becoming obsolete thus forcing people to use said new instant gratification while masking its true cause by saying "were giving you the option to choose".

this applies to most content that allows the easy way out.

Sorry, are you trying to say that you no longer enjoy traveling slow simply because there is an option to travel fast?

If so, I can't help you there.

    I like chocolate chip cookies.

If there was an option to eat oatmeal cookies, that would not nullify my enjoyment of chocolate chip cookies - I would still enjoy chocolate chip cookies the exact same as I did before I discovered oatmeal cookies.

If I found I enjoyed oatmeal cookies as well, I would try to leave room to eat them as well, but that would not detract from my enjoyment of chocolate chip cookies!

Nope. I'm stating that human nature is to take the easy way even if a more challenging option is presented. so by creating the "choice" of either, the majority of people will take the easy way out, thus making the more challenging way obsolete, thus pigonholeing all players to fast travel. I am looking at the big picture of the lack of immersion not just in travel.

    People play games they enjoy.

If the majority of people enjoy "easy" games, why does that matter as long as the game also includes what you enjoy?

(Not to mention, if the majority of players enjoy "easy" games, who exactly is going to buy an exclusively "hard" game? - food for thought)

At this point in time, FFXIV does include what you enjoy - slow traveling.

Why does it matter to you if other players are playing the game and using the option they enjoy - traveling fast?

It doesn't seem to matter to them if you travel slow, so why are you upset if they travel fast?

because allowing people to travel fast ruins the feeling of the game world for everyone. It means when you run around the world will be dead because everyone will just warp.
It means when you take an airship you will be the only one on it
It means that there will be no incentive to improve the world since everyone will be insta warping everywhere

So its not as simple as choice.

Are you trying to say that if Square removes the option to travel fast, then you would have more players to travel slow with?

    I disagree.

You would have the same amount of players to travel slow with as you do right now since the players who enjoy traveling fast would no longer want to play the game because the option they enjoyed was removed.

You can not force players to enjoy traveling slow in a game, sorry.

your argument can be summed up as "if they took out this one single small thing everyone would quit"

why do you think people will quit over something that trivial? They would have chocobos to make up for the loss of insta-port.

Just because "everyone" else does it doesn't mean it's obsolete.

Just because A is enjoyed by everybody else does not mean that B cannot be enjoyed.

Just because Nazi Germany successfully indoctrinated their people(everybody) into systematically destroying Jews(A) doesn't mean that basic human rights(B) become obsolete.

    Your premise is flawed.

On the contrary I'd argue that because of it's rarity, that makes B more valuable, but that isn't necessarily so. Value is a matter of personal choice.

Oh no I used that phrase again.

I don't think I've seen a cuter metaphor applied to such a divisive thread. Sound logic no less.
