Oh, for Pete's Sake. You can walk! You can walk! You don't have to teleport. Have allll the fun you want walking!

Laugh at the other players as you walk, letting them know how much more fun you're having than them as they teleport away. I mean, really. If it's that exciting, you won't have a hard convincing people by setting the example. You can start a following by doing the thing you find fun to do. You don't have to take teleporting away in order to do it.

You know sometimes I just wonder...I wonder if I'll ever get back that feeling I had from when I played XI for the first time.

I invested 7 years of my life into that game even when I was extremly busy with real life I always found time to log on at least once a week to just sit and chat with my linkshell. I made friends I thought I would never have, I still talk to many to this very day outside the game.

The only reason I found these people was the common thread that linked us together, we loved the game, and everything it offered. Their was always something to do, no matter how much you leveled or how much time you had. Their was always a area you have not seen, a NPC you haven't talked to, a map you never got, a friend in need!

XIV has none of this, it's a blind rush to the end and what awaits us at the end? Nothing.

Watching this video actually made me rather nostalgic, it's a shame XI isn't really the same game it was anymore either. I'm still willing to give this game time as I enjoy it for the time being, but I do hope that even at my slow and steady pace the game eventually becomes something that I am more actively interested in.

I wonder if people like you ever have experiences like this. I hope someday we can all enjoy our adventures in Eorzea and remember what it means to be an adventurer.

You obviously don't understand or don't want to understand the point I'm trying to make. I've never said there should be no teleporting but you don't want to see past that so I'll just let it stay there.

You think I don't want people to ever be able to teleport then go ahead and think that. It's sad really.

Clearly you want people to walk more than they do (at a time when many people actually want to be able to teleport more than they can now with the 100 Anima restriction). What you want can be achieved without making any changes whatsoever. That's really the point I'm trying to make. If you're not having fun exploring the world more slowly it's because you choose not to. You don't have to force anyone else into it.

They should get rid of needing to deliver supplies to camps, I'm sure thats where anyone with 0 anima probably spends it all is doing those silly turn in quests and expecting the reward to just be from the crafting itself.

People who want more anima want to be able to level faster for the most part. unlimited anima would speed up the leveling process exponentialy.

Even FFXI's Xarcarbard, which you site as a "remote place," has at least three insta-warps available (teleport crystal, outpost, and abyssea). You're just remembering it wrong.
Maybe we just played during different eras of the game, but when I played, Xarcabard was not easy to get to. Abyssea must be post-WoG, which doesn't really count. Outpost and Crystal both required you TO GET THERE ON YOUR OWN first. Which is fine by me, instant tele is fine if the FIRST TIME you go there is through travel. I remember being a 30RDM trying to unlock SMN and needed carbuncle to absorb ice or something like that. I took the pass through eastern ronfaure and it was an ADVENTURE. Not begging/paying someone to tele me there.

And yes, at lvl 25 in FFXIV I decided to turn down a tele to central mhor da to travel there on my own. I did have a lot of fun, but it wasn't the same. It never will be.

by your logic over the last few pages:
you're basically arguing if people want to just instant transport everywhere we should let them, and others who want to experience the game can walk. you're saying its a choice....

So continuing along that logic, that choice is the best way for a game to be....

Lets give people the -CHOICE- to get whatever gear they want. People who want to play the game can raid for it, but lets just give everyone the ability to choose any gear.

Lets give people the -CHOICE- to choose their level. Why should I have to mindlessly grind my crafts all day for hours? I should have a level up button.

see where im going with this?

You say walking is a chore, but grinding crafts is WAY more of a repetitive chore than walking is. Same with soloing the same mobs over and over and over for hours.

You either have a game, which requires people to invest time
or you have a game where people -choose- what to do (ex. cheat mode always on)

How can you logically argue for a middleground?

I agree with everything you just said. People think they'll be happy if they get everything on a silver platter in an instance but this game isn't a Sims stuff pack. There is no reward in game if it's not attached to some kind of gameplay or challenge.

It's the game designers job to make us want and need the rewards not to just give everything because then there isn't anything to strive for anymore.

I don't consider maps or skills or teleports being given to us. If anything they've taken these carrots away and are now struggling to come up with rewards that are in any way meaningful to the player. You can only do a +1 gear upgrade so many times until you realize it doesn't change the way you pla the game at all.

Why did SE bother making an entire world if this is what it's going to anyway?

Yeah, you're distracting from the issue by making it seem more complicated than it is.

The issue is simply one of enjoying the journey. You would like to enjoy it, and I'm telling you there's absolutely nothing stopping you.

If you don't like teleporting, then don't. There's nothing standing in your way from moving around as slowly as you like. What does it matter to you how fast anyone else travels?

Your enjoyment shouldn't come from impeding others.

Anima/instant transportation does ruin my sense of immersion (which for me, I NEED to enjoy a game) even though it has some lore behind it.
It's just too strange and... boring.. and.. over-powered, for lack of better words, for people to just be popping in and out of anywhere they need to be.
I understand it being in the game now, when there isn't much reason for real transportation, because there really isn't much to see or many places to go.. but I had always thought and hoped that anima would be temporary until real forms of travel came along. I really miss traveling by mount, ships, vehicles of some sort, and seeing other people traveling - perhaps meeting people along the way.
XIV is definitely about the destination, not the journey, and I don't like that at all.
It DOES make the world feel so instanced and small and lonely in my opinion.
I liked that XI had many forms of transportation and that there was still usually a tiny bit of walking involved. We got to see and experience the world on a daily basis. XIV is just "town -> camp -> camp -> camp -> town -> logofffromboredom."
One of my favourite things in a game is exploration. Once the maps are redone this should be something exciting for me finally. It does help to have a REASON to explore though... and the ability to be anywhere at any time kind of kills things.
It would have been better for immersion for me if teleporting was a mage spell or something.

An issue someone (well, a few people), brought up about the airship staying instant when we get the option for non-instant, is if two (or more) people are traveling to a party or something together, people like me who want to enjoy travel are going to be *****ed at for taking so long. >.> While I could give in and just take the instant route.. after some time it will destroy my immersion.. my feel of the game world being a place, and it will just be one of the little things that adds up and up and lowers my enjoyment of the game.

Anima isn't the only thing that may kill this game for me...

When XIV started I didn't even consider that I might not like the game. I'm really not too picky and I love SE's games.
Now, with so much of this "handing out everything to people on a silver platter" attitude SE has towards the game, it may drive me away from it honestly. I'm just not enjoying myself with the way things are going. Only still here out of hope. I honestly never thought I'd have to hope for one of their games.
In the meantime of waiting to see what happens to XIV, I've gone back to an old MMO which has a gorgeous world and lore so exciting that it was very hard to stay away from the game for 2 years.

I feel like a deserter even though I haven't really left XIV. ^^; I feel bad because I love SE and I used to feel like I believed in them. I'll wait and see what happens, but if they keep handing out instant gratification this game will never hold my interest.

Edit: Not to mention chars being $3 per... >.> And I like to have more than one character.. Sometimes I wonder if SE is TRYING to drive me away ; ; lol
