    The Thread That Wouldn't Die!

I don't think the problem is with easy teleports but rather that the (walking) journey to many destinations is so uneventful (lack of aggro mobs and/or easily avoided), lack of other events/quests along the way and lack of events/quests when you reach your destination.

The "side quests" and even the missions are poorly designed, ie. Start at point A, proceed to Point B, return to point A.
If a quest sends you to a Camp or Hamlet, there should be several quests to do there at that camp/hamlet.
This is one thing I felt WoW was good at..an NPC would ask you to go somewhere and when you got there practically every (lazy, incompetent) resident needed you to do something for them.

We need Quest Progression (the classic: NPC needs this item from that NPC, but that NPC needs something else first but to get that item you need to do another quest, kill some mobs for a key item, use the key item to pop an NM, then backtrack to make everyone happy and before you know it, you've gained 1 whole level, explored new areas, unlocked new aetherites and maybe grouped up and made some new friends along the way).

I did see on another post that SE wants to hire some Quest/mission planners. That is good news because we desperately need some good (if even cliched) interconnected quests and mini-storylines. It won't matter as much how quickly we arrive at our destination if we spend a decent amount of time at that destination before we insta-warp back to town...imho.

I'll repeat this again, because so many folks don't seem to get it. I don't want my fun to be ruined by your so-called 'immersion'.

Players such as Azurymber do not recognize that game immersion is a personal state of mind that can be vastly different from player to player based on their personal likes and dislikes of the content, therefore they can not accept that their enjoyment of their personal immersion might not be fun for another player or even immersive at all for another player.

I can render anything she's ever said about immersion as invalid:

Hey, I've just come up with an idea that you may actually like.

Being serious here, not trying to troll, so hear me out on this:

Jumping between leves and camps to do leves does, within moderate levels of reason, ruin the sense that you are doing something that should be regarded as 'important'.
That being said, what say you to the idea that when you accept leve quests, be they battle, gathering or crafting, your character's teleport ability is locked out, you cannot use it untill the leves you have are completed. If you were to use the airship whilst in possession of a levequest, you would have to take on it's full trip without a skip option.

When there are no leves left in your journal the teleport function is unlocked again and you can use it to your hearts content (as long as you have enough anima).

This way leves are given a larger sense of purpose without destroying the game for people who don't want to do them, or have already done them and just want to gain some sp (They'd be able to jump around zones to gather materials for instance, to boost some crafting)

Basically all leve/quest related things would lock out your teleport function. It would make these activities last longer, but compel players that like to teleport to do them faster so they could get their teleport operational again.

With the changes to the leve system being 4 every 12 hours now I think a system such as this would possibly make the whole thing more enjoyable rather than retract gameplay for people who want to do things fast, since you can probably get all 4 leves from the same adventurers guild and all have to be done at the same camp, you only have to travel from the city to the camp, so it's not too far to run but not too short either.

Some will probably argue this but it was just something that sprang to mind so I thought I'd share it.

I would argue for the complete opposite. Eliminate anima, implement chocobos, and make it so you can insta-warp to any leve you want to do. Leve's are the most boring tedius repetitive part of this game and thus should be the most convenient. Raids, quests, etc, should all entail a journey, either by timed airship, chocobo, or walking. Especially when they are story line based.

Well given that we don't have much extra content from leves at the moment, apart from a few dungeons and random stuff, I figured making leves last a bit longer would just help stretch out the playing time a little bit. Obviously once more content was added and more means to travel (like chocobos which I'm going to spend the rest of the game with, bye-bye teleports, chocobos = more fun ) then the leve tele lockout would be moved from leves to something more substantial.

Here's the funny thing, even though me and you have been bickering over immersion all the time, I probably run as much as you do, the only time I use teleport is if I'm short on time and just want to get my last couple of leves done before I have to go do something. All other times I start in La Noscea, do those battle+crafting leves, ride the boat to thana, run to uldah, do all those battle+crafting leves, and then to gridania and finish them all off. I save my anima for should I ever need it or if a linkshell member needs a quick teleport somewhere for some reason.

So yeah, I don't use the word 'immersion' as my excuse to do this marathon jog at every leve reset, but I do do it, and my excuse for it is "this game looks too gawdang pretty to just skip past, I want to admire it"

Even Thanalan can be pretty if you know where to look

yeah lol honestly i prob use insta port way more than you do. I port -everywhere- I can and plan things out so i don't have to run. And when I'm running i dont even look at the screen anymore really. Im mainly worried that the game won't draw new people in and will get shut down.

So wait... you were saying teleporting ruined immersion but were using it.... and I was saying teleporting didn't ruin immersion and wasn't using it...

Anyone see something wrong here? XD

I walk all over the place. I agree that if you Teleport, you miss out on so much good stuff.
