Wanting a fantasy world to be more immerse does not mean exclusively that real life qualities must be elicit. Creating a immersive fantasy environment can only help a game not hinder.
This dated back pre release I believe in one of the many interviews with one of the various fan sites. They stated clearly that one of the reasons they are running two MMORPGs (besides the money aspect) is FFXI its hardcore MMO was going to stay around and that FFXIV its new MMO was going to be more casual friendly and cater to gameplay of the masses. Which if you read between the lines they are saying if you want something hardcore play FFXI and if you want something that is different and casual friendly pick up FFXIV. Also obviously they did say there would be content for everyone but the emphasized aiming to make the game so you can enjoy it whether you had 30 minutes to play or 2+ hours.

I agree with this, but I believe that content + aesthetic details = immersion. Immersion is never a goal in and of itself, it's an activity chosen by the consumer of the medium.

They want XIV to have casual and hardcore elements.

I understand though that not everyone sees that as being fun or say someone just hit 50 and they wanted to come join you and if they never been out there then all the sudden just like many times in FFXI people got left out of things because they never been to that area and didn't know how to get there so they couldn't come join you in the event til they find someone to guide them out to that point to unlock the ability to teleport there. I guess that to you is a sense of adventure but to me that is a complete waste of time. They don't want this game to be FFXI+3, they want a new game that is different than their other MMO sure it has some similarities but overall it is completely different. Also I don't ever remember them saying making the stacks of items 999 or having more space was ever a temporary fix. They said they wanted to make it that way on purpose because the current system at the time sucked. You complain about everything that is making this game a better game overall and I can't comprehend that form of thought or opinion. Especially since the developers said from the start FFXIV is going to be more casual friendly and cater or all types of players and if you want the more hardcore experience to stick to or try FFXI.

    - The maximum numbers of crystals and shards each character and retainer is capable of carrying have been changed to 9,999.
    * With the maximun numbers of crystals and shards that can be transferred at one time through trade and bazaar will remain as 999.
    * This is a temporary measure and crystals or shards obtained in excess of this amount will automatically be discarded. The system is undergoing a fundamental redesign and adjustments will continue to be made.
in other words they added it temporarily while they fixed the system, and then never ended up fixing the system. It was never intended (and makes sense as such because it made the whole fishbotting + alchemy botting a viable option for gil)

Going back a few posts. Being able to travel to Mor Dhona at level 1 is not a cheat, being able to KILL something in Mor Dhona at level 1 is a cheat, I don't see level 1's killing things in Mor Dhona, I see no one cheating.

In the original Final Fantasy game waaaaaaaaaay back many many many years ago on the original Nintendo console, it was possible to go to the final boss castle very early in the game. Possible yes, but beating the boss that early in the game without the gear and levels you'd gain from doing the game properly, not possible.

Ease of transport and the ability to move to higher-than-your-designated-level zones is not cheating, it's just fast travelling, and ultimately pointless since you can't actually do anything there anyways (apart from fishing... for some reason the lake in the middle of Mor Dhona is only Grade 1...)

That was the old team as well and that same team that got canned from the project. Also that is just crystals and shards which no matter what you say having 999 is way better than 99.

Bluntly: This game IS or ISN'T as immersive as you want it to be. You choose if you want to be sucked into the story and experience it's in's and out's, or if you just want to grind away to get to end-game and kill big stuff.

Anima is a matter of convenience, you don't HAVE to teleport somewhere, the option to run is always present, and since anima is not infinite, then teleporting a lot will result in your running around anyways.
If you have time to run somewhere to do something, run there, don't waste your anima needlessly. If you're short on time, teleport.
With the addition of chocobos in 1.19, you'll probably find, at least for a while, a lot more people will be out in the field rather than teleporting, just 'cos, for a while, riding chocobos will be something new and fun to do. Afterwards, some will continue to ride chocobos, some will continue to run, and some will choose to teleport, depending on each players preference.

So no, instant teleporting and airships doesn't decrease 'immersion', the way you play the game does.
This is what I've been saying all along. +1

I'm thorough in my analyses. Unfortunately people don't read them. That's of no concern to me but I might start putting them in a *spoiler* text.

No, it doesn't. Also, the run to Sea and wherever else is cool maybe the first 3 times. I had to run all the way to Uldah from Gridania eventually, seems pretty similar to ffxi. I had no clue Uldah was pretty much the main town.

I hope at some point in their added content they add secret places with aggroable world bosses for this little snippet I just dreamed up:

During the course of random exploring, me and my chocobo friend come across a cave hidden behind the flora of Black Shroud. Upon entering the cave I encounter some ancient long forgotten dragon, who wakes up upon smelling the scent of his favorite meal, giant yellow chickens and cat-like humanoids. I decide it best to evacuate the area quickly, and the dragon gives chase, since he's quite hungry for a thousand-year sleep.

Switch to my friends in the linkshell, waiting at a nearby Camp for me to go on a dungeon run, constantly asking in LS chat as to my whereabouts, I however am unable to answer, as I'm fleeing for my life as a giant drake rips it's way through the Gridanian undergrowth trying to turn me into miqo'te kebab.

Back to the LS party, standing around, suddenly I come dashing around a tree on my chocobo like yellow lightning, followed by the extremely large, and now extremely angry dragon, smashing down trees and stepping on marmots and getting more agitated that it's lunch can only be defined as 'fast food'. LS chat lights up with screams of WTF????'s and OMG!!!'s as they dash to their chocobos and run for their virtual pixelated lives with me at the back of the pack, hurling rocks from the back of my chocobo and hoping that somehow world bosses can be stunned by 'wrist flick'.

Eventually after circling round, and adding diremites and many other aggroable mobs to our list of 'What is currently trying to eat us' we managed to reach the transition point to Thanalan and escape.
    ---------------------------

It'd be pointless, and offer no reward at all, but as adventures go it'd be right up there with J.R.R Tolkien XD
