I don't see the problem with SE giving us options:

If you want to experience in your opinion the full immersion of the game by taking 5-10mins to ride the airship you can; for others who this is not a game-breaking issue for they don't have to. Why are options bad? Do you really want everything in game to have no choices attached to it?

It's no different in my opinion to the enemy aggro icon and rank toggle on and off- if I want full "immersion" and feel that having this displayed on my screen I can toggle it off. If I feel like "actually I don't really care", then I can turn it back on. And having an icon and indicator to tell me what rank a mob is and whether it is aggressive does not "make sense" either, I mean we don't get this in real life do we? ^^
There will not be an option, Thus there should not be an option. ffxi did not have an option, and do no throw the excuse "oh this is no ffxi" because it will go through my right ear and straight out my left ear.

You guys act like ffxi or ffXIV was your first mmo, if it was I pity you.

The Dev. comment says there will be an option.....

"For the system we are planning, we are making it possible to select the speed you want to travel based on your play style. If you would like to travel very fast, you can skip the cut scene and instantly be transported to your destination. If you would like to take your time traveling on the airship, you can."

I don't actually personally care one way or the other if there was an option or not. You're right that in FFXI there was no choice- if I had to spend 5-10mins sitting on the airship in FFXIV also, then that is fine with me. I was simply pointing out that for a few people that are totally against an instant airship ride and want to sit through the whole thing, then they will be able to
